It seemed like it was going to be a nice weekend, so we headed out to Mt. Baldy in Michigan City, which is also called The Dunes. However, once we arrived it started pouring down rain. So much for a fun beach weekend. Hmph!
Mt. Baldy is called The Dunes because of it's massive sand dunes. We used to have to climb these steep sand dunes to get to the beach:
Can you imagine climbing that with all your gear just to get to the beach!? It was exhausting! Over the years the sand dunes have started deteriorating, so they built a walkway to the beach and closed off walking the dunes.
The water was freezing, so we didn't swim, but it's always nice to walk the shoreline.
And you get a great view of the lighthouse down the way that is located on the next beach over. We didn't go to that one because we didn't feel like paying the $7 parking when we weren't even going to swim though. Mt. Baldy is a free parking beach.
What were your weekend plans? Did you go to the beach too?
This brings back good memories. We used to go to a park with huge sand dunes like that. It was so much fun rolling and/or sliding down them.
ReplyDeleteSorry it was so cold and dreary. You did get nice pictures.
Have a great week, Theresa.
I always appreciate your visits to my blog, too.
Cheers,
xoRobyn
I have a friend who comes to Michigan to 'do the dunes.' I wonder if that's the area she's talking about. Glad you got to get some beach time in.
ReplyDeleteThese dunes are actually in Michigan City in Indiana, so there might be other dunes in Michigan your friend does. I bet you saw the beach line from the Sears (Willis) Tower when you were in Chicago. On a clear day we can see the Chicago Skyline from the beach here!
DeleteYup, I was at the beach all weekend, but I didn't have to do all that work to get there - yeesh. I suppose it's worth it, though, right?
ReplyDeleteSand dunes all around me, pretty much live at the beach
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful time, rain notwithstanding :)
ReplyDeleteTheresa, dear, you are gonna die, but that polish is Essie "play date". Yuppers. I'll be back to hear your response.
ReplyDeleteNot cool :( hehehe
Deletethe beach sounds nice! we spent the weekend working in the backyard, but it was still fun!
ReplyDeleteWe've been doing yard work for the past 3 weekends. We really needed a break, so the beach it was. Back to yard work again next weekend though :(
DeleteI haven't been to the beach in years
ReplyDeleteWe have a beach like that, thankfully no huge sand dune though, just a few small ones
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a beach anywhere near us. We did walk the dunes though. In Nebraska that is. Toadstool Park is full of sandy hills. I like your first picture!
ReplyDeleteI love that pretty magical lugger with those dunes!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad that you don't get along with Essie. I have a mint green that I want to break, destroy, toss and delete. I don't dare because I begged my HM for it and now I am stuck with it. (shhhhhh, don't tell him I said all that, k?) hahahhaha. I have found Essie is inconsistent in their product; one great, one not so great. I knew you wouldn't like know it was from Essie. Sorry. I love me L'oreal most of the time, honestly.
ReplyDeleteWait a second, just wait a second. Do you know where my hometown is? St. Joseph, MI. You live near where I just moved from. How unfair is that????
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were in Michigan. My daughter is moving to Ann Arbor in two weeks.

Pity about the rain! Looks like a great beach to relax in.. I hope to go for a picnic this weekend. Praying for good weather too ;p
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
This might be a dumb question - is this in Wisconsin or Indiana - we used to go to the dunes there a long time ago. Looks like fun. sandie
ReplyDeleteOh I miss the beach sooooo much! and that dune reminds me of those gorgeous dunes back then in the middle east. Every after sand storm there will be so many dunes, which are visible from the street. The dunes are always moving along with the sand storm. Beautiful! btw $7 parking is indeed too much when you just want to look around.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad that it rained! But it sure looks pretty! I can't believe how big that one sand dune is in the picture...I'd be SO exhausted trucking up that LOL.
ReplyDeleteWe are in NC right now and they have some huge sand dunes here. We went there yesterday.... so hot and I was dumb and took my shoes off. Hot, Hot, Hot!!
