The wait was about 20 minutes for the train, so Allison entertained herself with the mini ride on train and track:
They only had one enclosed car running on the train, so most of the people had to suffer through the ride in the cold. We were lucky enough to snag the last 4 spots in the closed car, which was a feeling better than winning the lottery. It was colder than Frosty's bum out that day!
I was disappointed that they didn't decorate the woods that we rode through with Christmas decorations. The ride seemed way too long when you only have snow covered trees to look at. Small kids were growing bored with the ride, but thankfully I had my Rudolph ears on. When they would start to cry, Allison turned on the light up noses to keep them entertained.
The specialty of the day was getting to visit Santa in the Santa Caboose!
We had a good time with our visit, though I still think it would have been improved with more holiday decor and maybe serving up some hot cocoa to the guests. It was definitely worth the price of 4 donated toys, so we will visit this event again next year, minus the train ride.
Do you like to ride on old steam trains?
That looked like a lot of fun. I am wishing you a wonderful new year. sandie
ReplyDeleteEven though the woods weren't decorated, it still sounds like you guys had a good time. You have lots of cool stuff around where you live - I am a little jealous.
ReplyDeleteTrain ride does sound rather boring, good thing you have your ears
ReplyDeleteI like that they had it linked to Toys 4 Tots. how funny that your ears turned into the entertainment, hahahaha!! Very cool. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a really fun snow ride and love your headgear :)
ReplyDeletehahaha I can imagine how funny that was when your ears got to keep the kids entertained. You look awesome in that 'ears'!
ReplyDeleteHow fun was that? You are so inventive on things to experience. And ...I love hearing about them, too. Thanks for the well wishing of a great 2014! It shall be, that's for sure. ♥
ReplyDeleteThat looks so neat!! I bet it was such a great time :) I love that caboose...too cute!! Love your headgear ;) hehehe
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos , nice train ride !
ReplyDeleteHot cocoa in winter sounds just so delicious!!! Happy New Year to you and your family Theresa! That looked like a great way to spend Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Nice family pics. Love the caboose.
ReplyDeletecool little train
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun family trip! If only I still fit in tiny trains like that ....
ReplyDeleteThat would have been so great if they would have decorated the woods. Even a wreath or two hung on a tree would have been nice. Sounds like you had fun anyway.
ReplyDeletehi Theresa! Thanks for the vote of confidence on my tutorial. I soooooooo appreciate it. I love the pic of you and Allison with you in Reindeer antlers. You guys are twins. {she is your "mini me" }
ReplyDeletethat looks like such a fun little train ride! I love that it is surrounded in snow.

DeleteNew follower here, hope you can follow back my Fitness blog. Thanks in advance.
I guess I missed where you boarded the train at? this looks like a cool place to take a 6 year old to
ReplyDeletegreat outing! our little ones would love this train themed opportunity choo choo!
ReplyDeleteNo, I have never ridden on an old steam train--and honestly think I would rather do that in the spring or fall when it is not quite as cold out!! Glad you were able to be in the enclosed car and had a great time despite the cold weather!
ReplyDeleteHope you, and your family, have a wonderful year!
ReplyDeleteThe place looks like a lot of fun. I agree, for small children, they should have something more Christmassy to entertain them during the long ride. Hope the next year will be even more fun!
That is so cool! Even the mini train looks awesome. I think $5 is a pretty fair price for the train ride. Around my area, it's a lot more.
ReplyDeleteMy son would have loved something like this. He's a huge fan of trains. Glad you had a good time. :-)
ReplyDeletewhat a fun day love the train ride how cool and your daughters are so beautiful
ReplyDeleteSounds like a magical day to me. Pictures are awesome too.. have a wonderful year ahead :)- Vinma
ReplyDeletethose looks like so much fun! I want to have a train ride haha!
ReplyDeleteOh wow what a lovely sounding place - it looks like you had a wonderful time and a rare glimpse of Santa! x
ReplyDeleteThat would have been so much fun - glad you got seats in the closed car. I learned of our Christmas Train Ride a little too late, next year!
ReplyDeleteMy boys love trains! I wish this was close to us!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love trains! , I also like how you the kept kids entertained with the reindeer lights, & & those pics are great
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you guys had a great time. I love all of the old trains for the kids to view and ride upon. This is certainly a very family friendly place to visit.
ReplyDeleteWe rode a Christmas train once and I also felt like it wasn't festive enough. Somebody out there really needs to go whole hog and then they'd draw in huge crowds!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun museum! I wanna partake in all the fun!
ReplyDeleteFrosty's bum hahaha I don't know if I would have gone in the open cart in that cold weather.
ReplyDeleteNow tell me how you got your teenage girls to sit on Santa's lap! It was a sad day for me when my kids no longer wanted to visit Santa at the mall. It sure looks cold and hot cocoa would have been a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI have taken some of these train rides before and we have had a great time. Of course it wasn't freezing cold.LOL It looked very pretty in the pictures but too bad they didn't make it more festive.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had an amazing winter holiday! I am so jealous, I love how you created such wonderful memories with your kids. I love snow and the trains you rode, what a wonderful time you had. Really enjoyed the pictures of your adventures. :)) thank you for sharing with us
ReplyDeleteI would have loved the snow coming down at a place like this! Such a great way for nature to add to your memories! I agree, a little decoration would have probably been better. Its too bad you had to entertain the smaller kids. The people at the train ride should be doing that!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very nice thing to do as a family this Christmas. It's nice to see family happy enjoying outside even though it's winter.
ReplyDeleteSome wonderful pictures! You definitely find some cool things to do with the kids! They look like they are having a good time!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of fun! And, considering how cold it is supposed to get over the next few days in much of the country, that closed in section that you were able to snag sounds great!
ReplyDeleteFrom BabsProjects: I love how all your pictures turned out especially of the one of the train with the woods in the background.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of fun! I wish we had a santa train here!
ReplyDeleteMy kids would love to ride a train and that is awesome you were able to ride for free!
ReplyDeleteMy boys would be in awe with the trains!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! especially the train! I think the photos are awesome too.
