I love working out, but this past year Zumba has been my exercise of choice, and I try to go 3 days a week. Mariah loves going with me too, but there is only 1 family class a week at our community center that she can attend with me until she turns 15. Last month I heard that 2 of my instructors were hosting a Zumba party this past Saturday to help restock our local food pantry. For 5 food items donated, you got into the party for free. And kids could come too! Sounded like a deal to me! So, I immediately took to asking my family and friends if they would like to come with us, and got no bites! I am now realizing that I have a bunch of lazy people in my circle of family and friends. No matter, because Mariah was excited to go. Allison, on the other hand, had to be bribed with the treats the vendors were offering at the event.
Which were way overpriced, but whatever keeps them happy, right?
The party was 3 hours long. We lasted an hour and a half before calling it quits.
Allison wasn't thrilled I was taking pics, and decided to retaliate and sneak some pictures of us shaking it on the floor.
Since we donated more food items than requested for entry to the party, we were entered into a raffle. We ended up winning a $50 gift card to one of the cosmetics vendors! I'd say the party was a success!
Do you like to Zumba? If not, what do you like to do for fitness?
I've never been to a Zumba class! I think my community centre has classes for it though.. have to try it out when I've the time. Heard a lot of rave reviews for it!
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
You should Ai! We were hooked at the first class we attended. Now we don't miss a week!
DeleteI am a big zumba girl, but the instructors need to take special training to teach kids under 13 and where I go, it's adult only.
ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of attending our family zumba classes. As soon as Mariah turns 15 in 2 weeks, we probably will just start doing all the adult classes from there on out. I feel the ones where the kids join in, it's not enough of a workout. No sweating, and it doesn't involve many dance moves.
DeleteI never exercise.... I'm a fat little walrus and walruses do not zumba.....
ReplyDeleteOMG Dezzy! That was my laugh for the day! :D Though you most certainly are not a walrus. You are too cute and stylish to be one!
Deletebut seriously.. me never exercises :) I've always been forbidden to do so because of my poor ticky ticker..... Not that it stopped me from having a hot fling once with a gym instructor LOL
DeleteI've never done zumba, although my sister keeps saying we should try it. Right now my exercise of choice is playing basketball with Elliott. He has gotten sooo much better this year, because he wants to practice for at least 30 minutes every day. That means I've gotten more and better work outs, too, especially when I've already done a different work out earlier in the day, and then we have time to play even longer. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a win win right there Carla. Not only are you getting an extra workout, you are making great memories with Elliot. And he is getting the chance to improve his basketball skills!
DeleteNever done zumba, but I workout out 6 days a week for 2 hour a day with p90x and p90x3
ReplyDeleteI have heard a lot about this exercise Pat. I have been wanting to give it a shot myself. I may this summer, but I am not sure I have the stamina to go a full 2 hours each day! Impressive!
DeleteJust pick P90X3, it is only 30-35 minutes a day. P90X is a better workout overall, but it is 60-90 minutes depending on the day. And be ready not to be able to move for a month.
DeleteThanks for the tips! I take a cardio strength class once a week at my gym and try to avoid it on Fridays because I can't move all weekend after that class lol. If it's anything like that, I can feel the burn now hahaha.
DeleteI feel so awkward when doing Zumba. I'd love to like it, but I feel like a fish out of water. I've been doing steps, push-ups, and leg lifts.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel awkward too, especially when a new routine is thrown in to the mix and I fumble through the whole song. I think what you are doing is definitely working for you though. I am impressed with your weight loss thus far!
DeleteDaisy wants to try zumba, but I've never had much time to take her when we think about it.
ReplyDeleteI think Daisy would love it! She seems like the happy kind of girl that are always in the classes!
DeleteYes, excellent pictures. fun, Zumba!
ReplyDeleteI tried to get my daughter to sign up for a class with me and she wasn't interested. The only two people in my fam. who aren't lazybutts are my oldest son (who does not live here) and my youngest. Ah well, so be it, at least there's two of 'em. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour event looks fun, and it was for a great cause!
I wish I had more people who liked fitness as much as I do. It's nice having someone to work out with. Jason goes to a different gym, but works out at lunch. Sometimes I will go with him on a guest pass, but it's not often.
DeleteI have watched people do it
ReplyDeleteJust... watched?
DeleteSometimes it's more fun to just sit back and observe ;)
DeleteI love zumba to. Sounds like a fun party for a great cause.
ReplyDeleteI love it when people try to bribe me with the treats. For the record, you look great. Now I'm reminded of the fact that I need to lose 10 pounds. Thanks. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am with Allison and totally would have gone for the candy! hehe (I'm one of those lazies) Way to win a gift card......cheers!
ReplyDeleteZumba's awesome, but I'm scared to get back to it. Smiles. I probably lost 5 lbs in sweat alone, doing it. You look so fit, Theresa. And Allison surely worked off her treats. Who needs lazy friends, when you have daughters to join you after a bribe?
ReplyDeleteI don't do so well with Zumba. I don't have much coordination skills. It's cool that the party was to raise food for a pantry.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny that Allison got the camera and took pictures of you too. My Daughter loves doing Zumba.
