Most of you may not know this, but a lot of my childhood was spent growing up in the south. Texas and South Carolina are both states I have called home, and we spent many summers on my grandma's farm in Tennessee. I've long since lost my accent, but sometimes when I am angry or really excited, that southern twang comes back, giving me a reminder of my days spent living the good southern life. Anyone who is anyone from the south will tell you that sweet tea is a staple in southern cuisine, and sadly it's just not something you really get here in the north. A few years back I started cutting cane sugar from my diet, and now drink unsweetened tea all day long. My mom won't touch my tea, as she is a firm believer that tea should be sweetened, even if it doesn't turn out like a good pitcher of the tea we had down south. When I found this Honey Lemon Ice Tea on Golden Blossom Honey, I thought it would be a good compromise.
Sweetened with honey and frozen lemonade, it has a sweet, tangy taste. Best of all, mom approves!
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1 cup frozen canned lemonade concentrate

Do you like your tea sweetened or sugar-free?
Now, sister why would you put something poisonously canned and concentrated when you can just squeeze a lemon or two in it? :) Boo and hiss on cans!
ReplyDeleteI like to put fresh fruit in my ice tea too.... two or three mashed apricots or a handful of mashed raspberries.... or slices of peach and it's peachy!
That turtle flower pot is delightful!
Dahling, You can get the poison free varieties at the natural food stores here ;) I just saw a recipe on another blog for blueberry tea that I will be trying next. I do LOVE a good peach tea though!
DeleteI love that little planter. It used to house a bamboo plant, but I've long since killed it off :(
Theresa... did the dazzzzling dezzzmeister boo and hiss?
DeleteIt is his specialty ;)
DeleteI boo and hiss on a daily basis! Theresa knows my boohissing alert goes on whenever she uses industrially processed ingredients :)
DeleteThen you are going to LOVE the canned pineapple in next week's recipe ;)
Deletepineapple is fine canned :) I've never actually tried it fresh since we don't have exotic fruits here :) And canned beans too since nobody has the time to cook them for hours in five different waters....
DeleteThat sounds SO good. I love a big glass of iced tea in the summer time :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a good alternative and I'm glad to hear your mom liked it too. I like my unsweetened, but I feel guilty when I say that in front of someone from the south. ;)

My youngest loves lemon tea so I will have to try this with him. It is much healthier than my husbands version of sweetened tea. My boys go through tea like crazy during the summer.
