Not quite wordless ;) Last month we took a family trip to the upper peninsula of Northern Michigan and made a little detour to Sault Ste. Marie so the girls could see the cargo ships passing through Soo Locks. I admit, I was bored out of my mind watching the sloooow arrival of the boats, but Jason and the girls thought it was quite interesting.
The bridge in the background takes you right to the US/Canadian border, and the girls were itching for a trip over it. They'll get their wish at the end of the month when we head that way for one last summer hurrah before it's time to head back to school.
Do you enjoy watching boats on the water?
Lovely blue waters.... but water scares me so I don't fancy me watching ships let alone coming aboard one... if we was suppose to sale we'd be ducks not humans :)
ReplyDeletesail not sale, not that we don't like them sales too :)
DeleteI get seasick and car sick quite easily, so I don't think I could ever do the fisherman thing. However, sign me up for sales any day of the week ;)
DeleteBoats going putt putt putt on water would bore me too lol I don't mind being on them though
ReplyDeleteIt was fascinating looking at the big ship up close, but the arrival made me want to rip out my hair. Move it along already!
DeleteWhen we were in Michigan, people always told us to go that it was such an amazing thing to watch. I was sorry we missed it, but now I've seen them through your blog, woot!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, if I'm parked in a chair on the beach, I'm more than happy to watch the boats go by (or if like Pat said, I'm on a boat...that's okey dokey too). :)
I bet your little man would have loved it Rosey. All the young boys were in awe of watching the ship pass through. Even my girls liked it! I guess I'm just a no fun ninny lol.
DeleteOut on the beach is a different story. I do love to watch the boats sail on by out on open water.
Locks are so much fun! My family has actually take a day trip on our vacations to watch locks when we've traveled.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a nice way to spend some time.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures look terrific.
Boats seem so fun to ride until you get sick
ReplyDeleteLooks so wonderful! Would love to spend some time chilling out there and just relaxing! - Jeanine
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a boat go through a lock before. You might have been bored but at least you got some cool pictures!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun area. I was there years ago and now trying to find time to bring our girls up that way.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd be bored just waiting for the ships too haha but lovely weather and blue waters I must say!

Those locks are really cool. We lived in southern Michigan but we went up there a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteOh how cool! We have nothing like that in Nebraska. I used to love to watch ships and boats go by between Hilton Head, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. It wasn't anything I had seen in person until I lived there for a bit.
ReplyDeleteVisiting the different locks in Portland and near Seattle was always my kiddos favorite thing to do!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried riding a boat but sounds a great experience to have. I will put this on my bucket list for next year.
ReplyDeleteMy dad loves all things nautical so I know he'd get a kick out of this. I do think the engineering behind it all is pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteThose are great photos. I love boats, I could ride a boat everywhere :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great time! I would love it. So would my kiddos
ReplyDeleteOh what a pretty site! We live next to a lake and we love watching the boats go by!
ReplyDeleteI am not gonna lie I dont like boat watching. Like you said its too slow for me but if your family members love it thats a good way to keep them entertained and a good memory for them.
ReplyDeleteI love watching boats. I just find it so peaceful and always wish I was out on the water.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool. I saw some lock when I was up in upstate NY - it was cool to see because we are coastal, so we don't have those around here.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing outing, anything by the water usually is.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping you wouldn't make it wordless! As I scrolled down I wanted to know more about those beautiful boats! Looked like a very nice day!
