Shake It Off With A Breakfast Shake

I'm pretty sure hell has frozen over because I just started doing the one thing I said I'd never do- wake up at 5am to start working out. My favorite fitness instructor started teaching Les Mills Body Pump classes before the sun even thinks about coming up, so I said "why not?" I have been faithful about sticking to a fitness routine for the past 5 years, but I usually opt to go after dinner because mornings just suck. I have done Zumba, Hip Hop, Boot Camp, and sometimes just stick with the gym machines but nothing has busted my butt like Body Pump. I have taken 3 classes per week (with 2 additional cardio classes on alternating days) for the past 2 months and am amazed at how my body is transforming. Guys, if you want a challenge and a nice booty, you should seriously consider finding an instructor in your area that teaches Les Mills Body Pump. There are YouTube videos that you could follow with free weights, but I like a group fitness experience so I continue to go bright and early.

After working a specific muscle group, the instructor always says "shake it off". Of course she wants us to loosen our muscles back up, but I can't help but think about going home and treating myself to a breakfast shake as a reward for a job well done. So, I call them smoothies, but for the sake of this post and sticking with the theme, we are calling them breakfast shakes today. I usually go for a blueberry or strawberry version, but I saw this Breakfast Shake on Golden Blossom Honey and liked the addition of pineapple so I thought I'd give it a whirl yesterday.

Strawberry Breakfast Shake

I always love to refuel after working out with a fruity shake like this, but this would also be great pre-workout with a little protein powder mixed in. The only thing I did differently with the recipe was used Greek yogurt, fresh pineapple chunks, and vanilla almond milk but kept all the measurements the same. I feel it's a well deserved, healthy snack after an intense workout.

Ingredients
2 Tablespoons RAW GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1 (8 ounce) container vanilla low-fat yogurt
1 (8 ounce) can pineapple chunks, with juice
5 large strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup ice cubes
2 Tablespoons milk, preferably nonfat

  1. I'm sure Jason is thrilled with the new booty :) I did notice you was getting up really early lately, I knew something was going on! I think I'd rather die than wake up so early, unless some hunk was my trainer. I do need a hunky hunk to take me out for walks like a doggie, 'cause I ain't doing it by myself.
It is beyond me how you can mix milk and yoghurt together, deary, with your digestive system, and not suffer after it, I'd probably die on a toiler.
I do always love your post titles.

    1. We do have some hunky hunk trainers at my gym, so that might motivate you to go and at least watch ;)

I didn't add dairy milk to mine, but used vanilla almond milk instead. I do eat a cup of Greek yogurt every day and do fine with it. I don't know if I've just built up a tolerance or the infusions have made it possible, but whatever it is, I ain't complaining cause I do love it so.

  2. Been getting up at 5 too as I had to work out before job, that dried up, so now I can work out any time haha when you find a good workout routine, stick with it indeed. I usually just eat a meal afterward, fuels and gets meal in, win win.

    1. That's the way to do it indeed. Knock out 2 birds with one stone.

  3. I usually drink a big tall glass of water with a little apple cider vinegar in it.

    I love smoothies though!

    1. I have never tried apple cider water. I'll have to look up the benefits of doing that. I always love seeing your smoothies too. You put so much good stuff in yours, you put the rest of us to shame ;)

  4. This sounds delicious! I tend to work out mid-day and eat lunch right after. On weekends I try smoothies/shakes after a long run.

  5. Good for you for committing to mornings. I just started back on Zumba after about a year of not doing much - I miss it, and I miss the weight I had lost. Now that my surgery is a couple months behind me, and I have run out of excuses, I'm getting back into it. The day after I started back I hurt...like all over, and I used to do this for an hour with no problems...this was a little 30 minute session. LOL! But - I'm determined to get back in shape, and I'm right there with you - having to get up earlier, which is not my idea of fun. But my evenings are so full, I don't have any spare time after dinner. I like to have a protein shake or protein bar after a good workout (plus my coffee...but I usually wait until after a shower, and for my body to cool down a bit first).

    1. Yay to getting back into a fitness routine! I've stopped feeling sore from Zumba for a few years, so I knew I needed to up my game and added in weights. I did 30 minutes and couldn't move for 2 days so I hear you one the pain front. We should take it as a "hurts so good" kind of pain though since we know that soreness is from strengthening our bodies.

    2. I'm so mad at myself today - I completely forgot to set the alarm last night, so my week is already off of my routine. I almost didn't get up in time to wake the kids for school!!! I agree - it is a "hurts so good" kind of pain, and I'm looking forward to getting back to my normal week tomorrow. :)

  8. This shake sounds so yummy, I am proud to say that I have lost nearly 60 lbs in a year by cutting out sugars etc plus I walk about 15 blocks every morning and feeling great for my old age LOL. BUT I am going to try this shake mmmmmmmm

    1. Amazing job Ruth! It's amazing how weight comes off by simply removing sugars from the diet. 15 blocks is quite an impressive number for walking every day too!

  9. I think that a breakfast shake would make me actually have breakfast. I am so busy with kids and then sitting down in the home office to work that I literally just have coffee and forget anything normal or healthy.

  10. It does sound good. Nothing works up an appetite faster than an intense workout, so you want to make sure you're choosing something good for you. Smoothies (breakfast shakes) fit the bill. :)

  13. I don't really have an exercise routine, and I am not allowed any strenuous exercises (doctor's orders). I just choose what I eat and walk a lot. I would love to try your smoothie recipe too. Looks delicious.
