I don't know about you, but I am soooo over winter already. I'm trying to stay positive, but when you walk outside and can immediately break a snot popsicle off of your nose, it's pretty hard to keep a smile on your face. I won't leave the house now unless I absolutely have to, opting to stay under my heated blanket with a hot drink in my hands trying to drink happy thoughts into my head about relaxing on a summer Neverland beach somewhere. For me, steaming tea is my drink of choice, but Jason needs something a bit stronger to take the bite out of the chill. We had some brandy leftover from the holidays, so over the weekend I made him this Warm Honey Brandy Toddy that I found on Golden Blossom Honey.
Because we were both suffering though a nasty cold over the weekend, the warmth of the drink plus the addition of the honey was a welcomed treat since it helped soothe the throat. Even though I am not a drinker, even I couldn't resist a few sips to help ease my pain and put me in a more relaxed state. This drink is perfect to warm the bones on a frigid winter night. Since it looks like winter won't be making an exit any time soon, I suggest keeping this recipe tacked up in the kitchen for all of those chilly nights that are still coming our way.
Ingredients
1/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY3 cups water

How cold has it been in your area lately?
Such a lovely combo of blues and yellows in your photos, lovely styling! And lovely cups too!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a bit colder this week here, but we still haven't hit subzero freeze this winter, hope it stays this mild till the end at least for my heating bills!
Sorry to hear you people had cold :(
I don't even want to see our heating bill this month, it's been so ridiculously cold :( I can't even keep my tea hot for very long before having to reheat it! I tried staying away from Jason when he first showed signs of getting ill, but what do you know... I got it too. And, of course, it hit me harder than him due to my stripped down immune system. Yesterday was the first day in two weeks I felt almost normal, but I still have some phlegm coming up with a bit of a cough. Hopefully, it will all be over by the end of this weekend. 2 weeks is long enough to suffer, I think!
Deleteyou need to develop a kissing technique with him with gauze masks on :) Did you at least use any special natural remedy to cure it? I'd be mincing lemons and garlic and mixing them with honey like there's no tomorrow :)
DeleteI havent had a cold in more than a decade, but as you know I hate people and stay away from them LOL
You should stay away from dairy while you have that phlegm, dairy only makes it worse! And drink tons of elderberry and linden tea, they will sweat you out and also warm you up in matters of seconds, I always have a box of elderberry tea for cold winter, although I prefer camomile as elderberry and linden are not always good for us with poor ticky-ticker.
There was no kissy kissy when he was sick so he had to have breathed his germs on me when we were sleeping. The nerve ;) I did make us a concoction of raw honey and apple cider vinegar. We both drank that down about 3 times a day. It worked quite well for Jason, breaking down his cold in about 2 days. I learned my lesson about the dairy. I had a smoothie before my workout on Thursday and ended up bailing out 1/2 through our routine. My instructor was so worried she left right in the middle of her class just to chase me down to make sure I was ok. I have been drinking a lot of tea this winter. Right now I am doing green tea with mint. One of Jason's vendors from China just gifted him with a ton of loose leaf teas, but they aren't labeled so I'm going to be playing the guessing game when I brew some of them at some point.
DeleteSounds like it does the trick. Blah to the cold and being sick. Sure doesn't seem to want to go away and I can't play hermit anymore, 9-5 makes me go out in it, hmph lol
ReplyDeleteStupid 9-5. Being a grownup sucks ;)
Deleteoh yes, very cold
ReplyDeleteAnd to think I wanted to move back to the Carolina's because it's warmer there. I don't think you guys are faring much better than we are at the moment.
DeleteThis would be perfect for after being outside in the cold, or when you're under the weather. I will have to keep this recipe.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely way to warm up after being out in the cold.
DeleteIt's about time I finally try a toddy. This season we were hit with so many colds so this drink would definitely come in handy.
ReplyDeleteIt was my first time having a toddy. You would think that I would have had one already since I am almost 40, but some things just slip by, I suppose.
DeleteExactly what I was looking for. Toddy's are my thing and my gram used to make a brandy one for coughs. (did you know here lol) This will be made soon!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea it was so great for soothing a cold until we tried one while we were not feeling well. I guess your gram already knew this secret :)
DeleteMy dad used to whip up something similar for colds and flu. Thank you for sharing this recipe! It is very timely.
ReplyDeleteI like that you use real Ginger. I also like the idea of saying, 'here's your hot toddy' with an English accent, of course. ;)
ReplyDeleteDarn, I should have put on my English accent when serving it to Jason. Next time, for sure ;)
DeleteMy husband love brandy and honey. I would love to make this for him since I have this honey in my cupboard.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm not typically a brandy drinker I'd try it if I had a cold. So much of the flu and random sickness is going around.
ReplyDeleteI like this drink recipe. It is very reserved.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like the perfect pick up if you're feeling a little under the weather especially during this season. I really love that it's warm!
ReplyDeleteI would love to make a glass of this right now since I haven't been feeling well these past few days. I'm sure it's really going to help make me feel a little bit better.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI think I will need that tonight. OMG, I have been working and doing all the household chores all by myself and I am Tired with a capital T. I have this weird thing that the more tired I am, the more difficult it is to fall asleep. Thanks for the recipe. I am mixing myself a toddy tonight.
ReplyDeleteLet's kick those nasty cold and flu with this! We have similar traditional drink like this in Indonesia, minus the brandy, and it taste great!
