13th Birthday Party~ Zebra Themed!

While Mariah's birthday was on Saturday, we ended up pushing the party ahead to Friday night. We've had her parties on Saturdays before and it's always a toss up on if guests will show or not. This year I am happy to report, every guest came, except for 1. While it was a great party, I am still exhausted from all of the energy 10 teenagers bring to a celebration!

Mariah is into zebra stuff lately, so I knew the decorations had to be black and white. We started out making these paper pom poms using black and white tissue paper.

She is also a fan of purple, and I wanted to add just a little bit of color to the decor, but finding a purple zebra striped Happy Birthday banner locally was hard. So, I bought a multi colored one and mod podged purple zebra scrapbook paper over it. It was a nice quick fix!

yes, it's a little off center, but this got hung when tired laziness started to kick in :)

We found some zebra themed goodie bags at Hobby Lobby, as well as some purple zebra ribbon to dress the bags up with.

We also made sure to wrap up the treats with a bit of zebra themed scrapbook paper.

And if you are a regular reader of this blog, you will see that no party I now throw will not be complete without cotton candy. Tied shut with the remaining goodie bag zebra bow ribbon, of course!

We decided to pass on a zebra cake, since the new thing taking up all of my child's free time lately is One Direction. We ended up having a family member make this fabulous cake for her. This was truly the highlight of her party among all the teenage girls in attendance. The only problem being there are 5 boys in the band, they fought over which boys face they were going to eat. Oh yes, the joys of being the mother to a teenage girl! Insert big, fat rolly eyes here!

Overall, the party was a huge success! We did hit a snag in party games when all of our plans were ruined by the threat of rain. I'll let you know what we came up with in tomorrow's post.

  1. What a fabulous looking party! She must have loved it :) I LOVE the zebra theme (I'm all about safari prints...tasteful not tacky ones though haha). You did a great job decorating! LOL at them fighting over who's face they would eat...typical teenage girls! :) What's all the fuss with girls & One Direction? Am I getting too old now to understand? lol

    1. I can only imagine the big fuss is the way we felt over New Kids On The Block. I now know the pain my mother suffered through during those years. Only she got off a little easier since Youtube wasn't around then.

If I hear that What Makes You Beautiful song one more time, I will be tempted to pop out my own eardrums lol.

    1. Aren't those poms cool? I couldn't believe how super easy they were to make, and they really draw the eye in.

If you need centerpiece ideas, you can cut the tissue paper down even smaller and make little flower ones, using pipe cleaners for the stems.

    1. Thanks Paula! I find myself singing that darn song all the time. I'm seriously considering banning it from our home.

  6. Looks like a great party with a clever theme. We went all out for our kids' thirteenth birthdays, because thirteen is a special year in our faith when boys and girls become men and women. Kids study hard to lead our religious services and read from our holy book. Whether or not an individual goes through with the ceremony, kids of this age are still considered adults. So, your daughter is now a woman. Congratulations!
