Since the girls have started back to school, I haven't had much time for crafting with them. I saw our local library had painting scheduled this week, so I decided we'd check it out. I told Allison we were going to go leaf painting at the library. I couldn't believe her spoil sport attitude when she exclaimed "That sounds boring!" Tough cookies, you are going.
Of course, once she got started, she was like "This is so fun! We need to do this more often!" She liked it so much, she painted 2 pictures. Kids.... Such crazy little creatures!
We hadn't participated in any of the crafting activities at our library before this. Now I'm wondering why not? Free art supplies and THEY clean it up! What's not to love about that!? I checked next months schedule and there are a ton of fun things we will be doing. Making Halloween masks is on Allison's list of must do, and Mariah is really excited by the Harry Potter party they will be throwing, since she gets to go in costume. Fun times are definitely ahead at the library!
Does your library offer free community art events? If so, do you attend them?
Our library does offer events, but it's usually only during school vacations. I have never participated because I always think it's going to be super crowded and end up being a hassle, but now you've motivated me to check it out the next time they do offer something like this.
ReplyDeleteRobin, I think 9 other kids showed up while we were there. I thought it would be crowded too, but was pleasantly surprised. Now the Harry Potter party, I'm expecting a crowd for that one!
DeleteWe do the crafts over the summer. I've never thought to do it during the school year (slaps self on forehead). I'm going to look it up right now and see what they've got going on.
ReplyDeleteI like the leaves. :)
We didn't look into any of the summer activities they offer because we are usually so busy outdoors. I really love that they offer activities after school though. It's nice to have a little creative outlet after studying all day!
Deletesounds like fun, why wasn't I invited?
ReplyDeleteBecause you live too far away :(
DeleteThey never had fun stuff at the library when I was little
ReplyDeleteOurs either! Though I do remember my mom taking us to a few movie showings at ours. They would offer Disney films and popcorn occasionally.
DeleteThat is a great idea! I have no clue as to what my library offers. doh! Which of your daughters is Allison? I can't remember. doh again! I'm thinking the oldest one? (50/50 chance of being right! hahaha)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the snaps on my post. Yellow or gold with purple seem like Fall colors; the leaves right? I love Halloween with the colors of orange and black with purple and bright green added to the mix. Yes!
Have a fun weekend and keep your great posts a headed my way. Cool.
Yes! I love these prints! Greetings!
ReplyDeleteNever knew libraries even did that. Nice, and free works too
ReplyDeleteWell lucky you... our library has nothing like this. When my daughter was young our library used to have a reading group where you took the kids and someone would read to them.
ReplyDeleteKeeps them creative and that is a great thing
ReplyDeleteI am always missing these events. The library activities is rare in our city because of budget cuts
ReplyDeleteNeat! When I lived in Basye I sometimes photographed library events for their bulletin board display. The events were planned by a volunteer.
ReplyDeletehaving so much fun..

Sounds like a winner. We are out of the take your kids to the library phase, but we used to make a mess at the children's museum. I'm ready for grandkids, so that we can do it all again. 25, 23, & 20 - getting close, especially with the oldest who is now very settled-- where's the girlfriend???

How fun! Isaak loves crafts. Mica for some odd reason doesn't.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so much fun! I signed my boys for coloring competition this week, kids are indeed crazy with pictures aren't they? :D Too bad we don't have a good library here.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I must admit, I often forget that our library has so many fun activities available for kids of all ages. I really need to check them out more. Love the pictures your girls painted! And glad they wound up enjoying it after all ;)
ReplyDeleteThe girls did a good job on their pieces. My kids used to go quite often to the free events at the library. I loved that they offered so many activities. Now that my kids are older, they don't go because they're busy with afterschool activities, but I definitely recommend that people take advantage of their library's services/activities.
