If I could meet one person, I would chose to go back and meet my paternal grandpa. He passed away a year before I was born, but growing up I heard so many stories about him, I feel he must have been a very interesting man. During his military service he did a little boxing, and this picture of him fascinates me.
Not just the man, but the size of the gloves they wore back then. Look at how thin they were. Nothing like the huge padded gloves they wear today. Getting hit by one of those means you're probably getting knocked flat on your ass. They certainly weren't playing around back then!
Who is one person you would like to meet if you had the chance?
Oh my gosh. As part of my krav maga training, we do some MMA/boxing and I would break my hand in those gloves. I wonder how they did it back then?
ReplyDeleteYour grandpa was probably well liked by the ladies, he's a looker. :) If I could go back and meet someone it'd be my daddy. :) He passed when my mom was 9 months along with me.
ReplyDeleteHe really was handsome, wasn't he?
DeleteI think that would be amazing to be able to go back and meet relatives that have passed before our time. I didn't get to meet my grandma (this one's wife) either because she died of breast cancer well before I was born too. I am so sorry you never got the chance to meet your dad :(
I'm long since over it, but it took a good long while to be able to say that. ;) I'm sorry you didn't get to meet your gram. You know you can see the resemblance between you and your grandpa. I think that's cool!
DeleteIf I could meet one person in history, it would be Gandhi. If it was a family member, I would chose my paternal grandfather (he died before I was born as well).
ReplyDeleteHe was a very handsome man Theresa. It would be so great if we could go back and meet our family members who we never knew.
ReplyDeletehe looked like a classic moviestar!
ReplyDeleteHe really did!
DeleteThat is a cool picture!
ReplyDeleteIf I could meet any family member I'd choose to meet my Dad's Mother. She passed away when he was only 2. She had some kind of infection in her kidneys as a child, and was told to never have kids. She had two. It took a tool on her. I've heard that I'm a lot like her from her brother (my Dad's Uncle), and my Grandpa. I think just the mystery of my Dad not knowing her, makes me want to meet her.
He looks ready for a fight
ReplyDeleteWith gloves like that i sure wouldn't want to be hit.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm Hmmmm. I think I would wanna meet him too! A handsome man! lol. I guess I would want to meet my paternal Grandpa too. He died when my Dad was just a young boy!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome photo to have of your grandpa!! Hmm I haven't thought about it much.. will get back to ya when I decide :P
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
That is a pretty awesome photo of your grandpa. I agree, those gloves aren't doing much to protect!
ReplyDeletePeople also didn't get as many concussions either. If you hit that hard, you'd break your hand. Safety gear in one aspect protects one fighter and damages the other! I'd visit with my Civil War Ancestor Commodore Lindsey, just to pick his brain.
ReplyDeleteI would go back and meet my grandmother who also passed away before I was born. That is an awesome photo of him. Love looking at old photos of my papa and family.
ReplyDeleteVery cool. He looks like someone from a movie - like the hero or the evil magician or something. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome that you have such a great picture of your grandpa. My grandmother is getting ready to move and has been going through all kinds of old pictures. It's so cool to see all the old pictures and to be able to show them to my kids!
ReplyDeleteI think there would be several historical figures that I would want to meet, probably mostly presidents.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool picture! He sounds like an amazing man!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! I would love to go back and meet my great-grandparents. Three of them passed before I was born. I still have two living grandmas, so I've been fairly fortunate to have my grandparents around.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really neat picture! I would have loved to meet my grandfather too, he died a few years before I was born.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great old pic. I can't believe how thin the boxing gloves are.
ReplyDeleteIf I could meet one person it would probably be one of my great-grandparents. My parents always talk about them so it would be great to meet them.
ReplyDeleteThey probably also had a lot of broken hands back then.
ReplyDeleteMy father. He died before I was born.
ReplyDeleteI love this picture and am glad that you have a great photo like this to help keep their memories alive.
What an awesome picture and piece of history you have there! You grandpa looks tough!
ReplyDeleteWhat? I didn't realize they had next to no protection. That was nuts!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to go back and meet JFK. Every since elementary school I have been intrigued by him and his life, so it would have to be him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool picture! I'm in utter awe of that entire generation, all they stood for and endured. Further, I'm in total agreement about the gloves. They could've just used their bare fists.
ReplyDeleteSeems like he was a great guy. Awesome photo. I'd love to meet my mom's mom. I think if I knew her I might understand my mom a little better. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know my grandma. I did know her but she died when I was 3 and I'd love to hear her stories of her life. Her mom died young and she was in foster care. It makes me curious about that side of my family.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great guy he looked like. It would be great to go back and meet relative I never got a chance to.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go meet some of my family that had passed before I knew them. Especially my great great grandparents on my dads side, they are all full blood Italians and I would love to see where they came from before they came to America.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about my grandparents. I never met any of them, except my paternal grandfather who died when I was two. I have no memory of him. The photo is cool!

I wish I could have met my grandfather too. The stories my family tell about him makes him seem so special.
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome picture! I am really not sure! Maybe artist Frida Kahlo.
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome picture. I'm very lucky, my grandpas is still alive, but I love looking at old pictures of him!
ReplyDeleteHeh he's a hottie :P I never knew my grandfathers. Apparently, they were both ass-hats. Iuno who I'd wanna meet if I could go back in time... hmm.
ReplyDeletelove the picture! I bet it brings back all the memories ..I just notice how different everything was back then, especially for boxing..
