My husband wasn't totally on board with going to the show, but in the end, I got my way.
If you are planning on seeing American Idiot, just be forewarned there
is a lot of profanity, drug use, and sex scenes. I had thought about
taking my 14 year old daughter, but almost immediately felt relieved
that she didn't come. While I am sure these are subjects she can handle
just fine, I think witnessing their portrayal with her parents would have been a bit awkward for her.
The energy was high and the performers did a great job on the musical numbers. However, I wasn't sure they executed their storyline as well as they could have. It was almost halfway through the show before I realized there were 3 different stories unfolding in the performance. However, the show was still great- not Rock of Ages great, but worthwhile to see once.
Are you a Green Day fan? What musical band would you like to see featured in a theatrical performance?
I like Green Day.
ReplyDeleteTesla is coming here, but they're sold out. Hubby doesn't like them but said he'd have gone with me. Phft to them selling out before we could go. I think that band is the generation before yours though, cuz I think I'm one gen. behind ya' ;)
Not sure what band I'd like to see in a theatrical performance, but I bet there are tons.
OMG Rosey, Tesla was my very first concert ever! I think I was about 10 or 11 when they came to town. Our radio station was giving out tickets and I won a pair. It was such a fun show too! Too bad you don't get to go this time around. Hopefully they will come back soon and you will catch them then :)
DeleteI'd agree with the younger version of your hubs, sweet sister :) They have some of the most annoying songs (WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS for example.. . especially the part when that actress cries like crazy in the video).... but I like their THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE....
ReplyDeleteThat's ok Dez, I think they are a love it or leave it kind of band. I'm not much of a music video watcher, so I haven't seen any of theirs. I just put my ipod on or play Pandora when I want to hear some tunes.
Delete@Dazzling Dezzmeister Theresa thinks you are a love. So, technically speaking she is not sure. :p
DeleteGreen Day are good indeed, like a few of their songs. Never even knew there was such a thing as american idiot going on.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't know at your show?
DeleteSay it ain't so....
I do like Green Day and I have always wanted to see this show. It sounds awesome and I am glad you liked it.
ReplyDeleteI actually had not heard of Green Day. Guess I have been living under a rock.. or a small town in Pennsylvania. Glad you enjoyed the show.
ReplyDeletethat looks like a blast. Might have been awkward for your daughter though with you
ReplyDeleteI'll have to keep my eyes open for American idiots.

American idiot is a great song because it's true.
ReplyDeleteHe has since changed his tune... Good intended pun. Now let's see... profanity, drug use, and sex. Count me in! You're such a convincing reviewer. Well, maybe we could do without the drugs, unless the drugs is the sex stuff. Um... just quoting Dezzy. Yes, that's it.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a show without drugs, sex, and profanity? Not a very entertaining one ;) Just kidding lol. I much prefer a Disney show, but it is nice to see a more adult show once in a while.
DeleteYes, Green Day is a good rock band, I like to hear when I walk fast!
ReplyDeleteLove Green Day!!
ReplyDeleteI know their songs, but it doesn't stand out as a band I love.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I know Green Day's music. I usually have to have more 'current' music pointed out to me. Thanks for they nice comment and the ever supportive love and concern. I had to take some pre-chemo meds {to ward off nausea} and they have made me hyper, ornery and the munchies. Wonder if it is a marijuana twin but in a Rx form? Anyways, oh CHEMO = BRING IT!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I both like Green Day. So do our daughters actually, American Idiot is their favorite song, lol. I didn't know they had a theatrical performance though, I guess I'm really out of the loop!
ReplyDeleteOh I like Green Day! Not a huge fan but I think their music sounds good. Haven't caught the performance though...
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
LOVE Green Day! Wake me up When September Ends is my favorite song of theirs. And Adam's comment made me laugh out loud LOL.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of Green Day. I am not that much into music. If I listen at all it's to the 50's, 60's 70's. There is something on Broadway about Carole King--she is def one of my all time favorites and I am trying to figure out how to save up to go see it.
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing this advertised on TV and was curious about how it would actually be. I'm so glad you posted your experiences. I wasn't sure if they would pull it off to really capture the Green Day persona. Green Day was SUCH a huge hit back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI saw Green Day in concert when I was probably 21 or so. The lead singer actually pulled his pants down on the last song. They're something....
ReplyDeleteI was a big fan of Green Day when I was younger. I can't remember the last time I listened to them recently, though!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing I love Green Day. Their music is so good.
ReplyDeleteGreen Day boy does that bring back memories. I would say I'm a fan since I'd rock out to it if it were on the radio :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a blast from the past! Green Day was big during my high school years too. Glad that you got out and had fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good old blast from the past! Great find!
ReplyDeleteI use to love Green Day and Oasis too when I was a teen! But then again I also enjoy a variety of music.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I would love to go see this. My husband and I would both enjoy it, it's a bit of a throwback at this point.
