The girls have been out of school for a few weeks, and the one thing they really look forward to at the end of the school year is their annual homework burning party. They gather up all of their old schoolwork, and literally set fire to it. It's just a fun way to kind of close out the end of the school year.
It has been raining almost every day since they have been out of school, so we have had to delay the tradition a bit this year. Finally, this weekend the girls were able to gather up their papers and watched them go up in flames.
Do your kids have any end of the school year traditions?
Yes, it's a good party with bonfire! Nice photos!
ReplyDeleteOh I love this!! But in our sch system here we usually have to refer back to prev years work as well haha.. so not a good idea to burn at the end of every sch year. Maybe after graduation :P

This must be SO cathartic for a child to do!!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious. I have never heard of anyone doing this, but I bet my kids would love to do one!!
ReplyDeletenow that is wonderfully anarchistic :)
ReplyDeleteI bet they wish they could do that before they turn it in.
ReplyDeletehaha that is an awesome idea. Think I could get away with setting all my work stuff on fire?
ReplyDeleteI love your firepit. It is such a pretty area! Happy summer girls.
ReplyDeleteI bet they love that. Now that we homeschool, we will have to hold on to more of our stuff, so I guess we can't do something like that.
ReplyDeleteIf I had kids we would have a tradition like this. There would probably be fireworks involved too.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of anyone doing that but I like the idea!
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious!! You're a cool mom. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I'm going to steal this one for my kids. We have a yes day on the first Saturday of summer vacation. We set a budget and some limits (like no we can't buy a pony) but we say yes to everything the kids want to do. It's so much fun and I love seeing what they want to do. This year they wanted to start at the pool where we stayed for 6 hours!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this idea! I am going to steal that one from you now :) lol
DeleteAwh I did that once after 9th grade. I hated 9th grade. Classes too hard and my parents expected A's. No other time did they do that. They could tell they were giving me a early heart attack. I was just a B+ student after that in high school. But we burned everything in a big barrel in the back yard in the 1960s. Now you have a fancy fire pit. Awh. Yes, I just redesigned my blog yesterday evening. I wanted a more sophisticated looks and either my eyes are weak but I was straining to read my own text. doh! Thanks for noticing, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fun one! We should totally do that next year. I don't really have a tradition other than to go through their papers to decide what to keep. Isaak wants to keep everything. Maybe next year he'll want to burn some of it. I have to sneak to put stuff in the recycle bin.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a funny tradition--I love it. My daughter just finished preschool so there aren't any real traditions yet. I'm going to hold this one for later. Love it!

I would've never thought up a tradition like that one. Haha that's actually pretty cool! This year I mostly looked forward to all of the graduation parties. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's one big fire. I'm sure your kids are thrilled to watch it all burn.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is SUCH a great idea! I must admit, I just finished studying for and taking a huge insurance exam! I told my husband I was ready to burn THOSE materials - I imagine it would feel good! LOL
ReplyDeleteI always had to refer back to the prior years work-but I know I would have loved to do that!
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a great way to get rid of all the paper in the house as well. The kids gets sooo much homework we end up with a lot of paper. I may have to make this a tradition as well. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition! My son just graduated kindergarden and the only tradition we did was have him pick dinner...I'll have to think of something like this in the years to come!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great tradition!
ReplyDeleteWell that's a great way to get rid of all those unwanted papers. ... Plus, it gives the girls a good time burning it. Better than burning bras.
