Like most girls in the world, my daughter is Frozen obsessed. And like most girls, she has really taken a shining to Elsa.
Our downtown sponsored a sing-a-long outdoor video screening with the opportunity to meet Elsa this past weekend. Everyone brings their own lawn chairs, and at dusk the video will play on a big inflatable screen.
Even though we are going to Disney this fall, the moronic idea of taking my daughter to this event popped into my head and off we went. But first we scoured town looking for an Elsa dress for her to wear. Of course, there were none to be found, because when we showed up, there were about 500 girls ahead of us in line. I'm sure they were the ones who swooped in and bought all the Elsa dresses before us.
Allison was just excited that she was going to meet her idol, Elsa, and couldn't wait to get there, dress or no dress. After a very long 2 hours in line, complete with wild kids, other frazzled parents, and vendors trying to entice our kids with overpriced cupcakes (Honestly, this was probably as close to Hell as I have ever been) it was finally our turn.
And after our hellish 2 hour wait, know what my kid said? "Pft! That doesn't even look like Elsa!"
Bang, Bang, Bang goes the sound of my forehead against the wall.
Have you ever been disappointed after meeting someone you look up to?
Well, that girl that played Elsa really doesn't look like her LOL, so I can see why she was disappointed. She can meet the "real" Elsa at DW this fall :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that's sad... of course younger kids probably were fooled. But I guess the difference owuld have been make up and maybe a wig for her.
DeleteLol...I have to agree with her. I think u or I would make a better Elsa if we coloured our hair ;-)
ReplyDeleteEven thought the wait may not have been worth it, it still looks like a fun time was had :)
ReplyDeletelmao 2 hours to meet a phony? Disney sounds like the better idea to wait for.
ReplyDeleteWhat the frozen hell? You would look more like Elsa with a blond wig on you than this lady :)
ReplyDeleteDid your daughter like the first pics of Elsa in ONCE UPON A TIME?
There was a lady in line that I though would have made a fabulous Elsa. Too bad they didn't hire her!
DeleteI didn't show her the Elsa from Once Upon A Time because she doesn't watch that show. If it isn't on YouTube, she has no interest (big fat rolling eyes here). I thought the actress was really cute they hired, and I can't wait to see her on the show. However, I am still catching up, and am only 1/2 way through season 2 right now.
I stopped watching at the beginning of season two when they totally lost themselves and became ONCE UPON A NAP :)
DeleteShe looks very not like Elsa, almost like she's somebody's wife that organized the event and they wanted to save the money of hiring a model.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing Adam. I don't want to be discriminating on the age here, but she really did look too old to play the part.
DeleteOh no! Well Allison looks cute!
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed this weekend. Isaak was sick with a cold, but we wanted to go to this grand opening Lego room/shop. I debated if we should go - because of the sickness. My mom said, "Oh just go. You'd send them to school with a cold." So we went. I wrote down 108th and Pacific instead of 180th and Pacific. Since they are so new their phone didn't work. I went home, saw my mistake, so we went out again. It was just Legos everywhere. No special sets. We could have built with Legos at home. I felt like a dip!
That is hilarious! I thought the same thing as your daughter but the sing a long sounded awesome fun! Have fun at Disney when you go.
ReplyDeleteLol she really does not look like her,They could of tried a bit harder knowing that a lot of kids would be wanting to see her.All that waiting would of driven me crazy well done to you for getting through it :).
ReplyDeleteSounds like it could have been a great event, but I'm with her, she doesn't look much like her LOL (Kids are so smart and creative - they can spot an impostor when they see one LOL) Here's to no more hellish events in your future!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, she looks nothing like her! What a horrible disappointment :( I would have been so annoyed after. Elsa is much better st Disney! :)
ReplyDeleteOk, I have no idea what Elsa is supposed to look like. Thus I will take all your words for it that this one didn't look the part. Think of it this way-at least you didn't end up buying that dress!
ReplyDeleteThat is funny but I kind of agree. That was my first thought too! They needed someone blonder! LOL! Looks like a fun day anyway!
ReplyDeleteHoly moley - so many people! I'm so sorry that your little girl was disappointed. That must've been so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I clicked over, I commented earlier, but it's not here. Maybe I left too quickly, I dunno. I agree with the others though, she looks like a friendly mom or aunt, no Elsa. :)
ReplyDeleteWin some, lose some? :)
What a trooper Allison is though... even though she didn't get the dress, she still went ahead to meet Elsa... Too bad this girl didn't look more like Allison thought she should look like.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. This is hilarious... at least I hope you can laugh about it now. My girls would totally do the same to me.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the line for Elsa is crazy at Disney World now. Hopefully it won't be so bad when you go. Elliott wants to meet both princesses from Frozen this year, too, but I've already told him I'm not waiting in line for a long time for any princesses. Haha. I have a feeling if he really wants to meet them it will be me with him, though.
ReplyDeleteYes, and it is such a weird disappointment. Idol worshiping in our culture is so way out of hand. But I think we conjure a bit of it in our heads so we can't blame them either. I would however be very please to be a best friend to someone famous. so see, there I go. But I mean a real true friend. At my age I would have to be friends with Ellen or ummm, Diane Keaton (but she drinks too much). lol ♥
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with her...she does not look like Elsa, poor thing!
ReplyDeleteOh what a shame she didn't look like Elsa :( I bet there were quite few disappointed kids. x
ReplyDeleteI could not stop laughing. You're such a trooper. I think that crowd would have had me running back to the car as fast as I could. LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! I would have said the same thing!! They could have at least found a fluffier dress, and younger girl!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an unforgettable experience for a number of reasons. I would have been running in the opposite direction.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest.. she really doesn't look like Elsa!! But big props to you for braving through all the fans and exorbitantly priced cupcakes to bring your daughter to the event :)
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
My daughters would have loved this and my 5 year old would have told me the same
ReplyDeleteThing! But she realy is not an extremely close look a like
What a fun event! And yeah, that doesn't look like Elsa! Lol
DeleteYour daughter is right, she doesn't look too much like Elsa. But you get the good parent card for trying to let her meet her idol, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for the disappointment. After all you had to put up with.
ReplyDeleteThat is enough to make any young girl's day! I know mine would LOVE that. Amber N
ReplyDeleteThe things we do for our children, 2 hours in line waiting for her favorite person in the world! Good Job for all you do!
ReplyDeleteI am also a Frozen fan. I hate when you spend all that time waiting and then get a comment like that - makes it so worth it doesn't it!
ReplyDeleteMost kids love that movie. Disney Channel sure knows how to market this stuff
ReplyDeleteLOL! Disney will do a better job at looking like Elsa, trust me! Won't be disappointed there :)
ReplyDeleteNice pictures with his beautiful Elsa!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a run event. I am glad that you all had a good time.
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks like so much fun! My little girl turns five in a couple of weeks and would love this.
ReplyDeleteParental sacrifices know no limits. Sorry you went through Hell, or almost. I was thinking the same as Allison: That lady's supposed to look like that doll??
ReplyDeleteMaybe she didn't find the "Elsa" dress but she looked adorable in the dress she wore. I don't know much about the rest of this but it is too bad that you had to wait so long and then be disappointed. Hopefully Disney will be much better in the "Elsa" department. ;)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your daughter was disappointed! Hopefully she will see a much better Elsa when you go to Disney!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that she's not really a very believable Elsa look-alike, but you get major mom points for attempting this whole thing. Seriously MAJOR mom points.
ReplyDeleteThe event looks really fun but I have to agree that woman doesn't much look like Elsa. Disney probably has a whole fleet of women who look way more accurate that you will get to meet soon!
ReplyDeletehahaha sounds like something my kids would have said too because it is true. Kids are so honest sometimes it makes me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Isn't it amazing how everything is over commercialized! Glad your daughter was able to figure that out. What a scam eh!
