A few weeks ago, I boxed up the blanket for Allison, put in a winter puzzle for Mariah, then added in some Christmas candies. Sealed it up, topped it with red and green glitter, and left it on the front porch for them to find in the morning.
Allison couldn't contain her excitement over the mystery package on the porch, and immediately tore into it!
Her Christmas spirit is back in full swing, and she is eagerly awaiting his return this year. It was a fun little idea that lifted their spirits on an otherwise boring, summer day.
Do you like the idea of Elf on the Shelf, or are you so over the novelty of it by now?
I'm totally over it, but my kids still love it, so I will keep it up. Actually, I am pretty sure that my oldest doesn't believe anymore, but he's playing along. My little guy still has a couple of years, though!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest doesn't believe either, but she still gets excited to see where he winds up each day lol.
DeleteI love doing Elf on the Shelf every Christmas!! I'll probably still be doing it when I am old and grey. I am so excited for Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteMe too Keith! Even when they don't believe anymore, we will still be pulling the Elf out every year!
DeleteWe don't do Elf on the Shelf at our house. When Elliott first heard about elf on a shelf he said it was weird and implied it was creepy. He's not fond of the idea of Santa watching him sleep either. When he was four or five he told me that anyone who watched him sleep should be willing to wake him up and talk to him.
ReplyDeleteElf on the shelf has never graced my shelf, came after I was out of the house. Great idea indeed though.
ReplyDeleteYou're such a fun mommy!
ReplyDeleteThat was such a cute idea Jason had. I like surprises too... good surprises. My Grandkids have the Elf On A Shelf and love it.
ReplyDeleteyou're such a good mom! Indeed you are!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could take all the credit for this one. Every once in a while Jason gets a brilliant idea though, so the glory here would be all his :)
DeleteMy nieces aren't old enough to understand Mr. Elf yet
ReplyDeleteWe've never done Elf on the Shelf. I enjoy seeing people's posts about him causing craziness.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea!! It gets them excited and ready for his appearance come Christmas time :) I'll have to suggest this idea to friends of mine who also have an Elf on the Shelf :)
ReplyDeleteYou're such a good mom! I don't even do Elf on the Shelf during the winter because it's enough for me to keep up with laundry. ;)
ReplyDeleteTo me the whole Elf on a Shelf thing is sort of like a Christmas traveling garden gnome. You know, you take the elf and put it in all sorts of ridiculous places and situations and take photos and send them to people, or post them to Facebook or Instagram or something.
ReplyDeleteVery funny idea! I hope you come to my house too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Elf! Our Elf has never done anything like that! I think Ryan (10) is on to the Elf by now, but still would play along if it meant a fun care package over the summer. :)
ReplyDeleteYou and hubby are so cool! What could be better than "Half Christmas" gifts. Love it!
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves that elf like no other, and so does our youngest. :) Love the summer gift idea!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Mom (no?) but I, too, will drag out the make believe world for as long as possible. An August elf.... Santa on the Bahamas. Bora? I like it!
ReplyDeleteinteresting..look at those lit-up faces..full of smiles..great idea, Theresa..
ReplyDeleteAw, what a fun idea. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like such a fun idea :) I'm the type of person who listens to Christmas music all year round, and will keep decorations up all year round if permitted.
ReplyDeleteWe never did Elf on the Shelf. My kiddo isn't into that sort of thing, and if I did try, he would never let me put it away. He plays with all his Christmas stuffed animals all year long.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cute idea! We haven't done Elf on the Shelf to it's full extent yet, but plan on trying it this year.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought it was the cutest idea. I love the creativity of it all!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I wish I had thought of it. I am going to have to do it for my girls next year.
ReplyDeleteI never did Elf on a shelf. It is a cute idea though. Love keeping the idea going through the Summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfectly lovely thing to do. It is always nice to receive an unexpected gift--especially from your favorite elf!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a fantastic idea!! Surprise gifts are always such wins!!
ReplyDeleteOn another note, can't believe the end of the year is almost here in 4 months time eeks!!

I have never done Elf on the shelf as I hadn't heard of him till last year.
ReplyDeleteWe have one that comes on Thanksgiving but it's a chore trying to remember to move it.
ReplyDeleteI have never done the Elf on the Shelf before. Looks fun though!
ReplyDeleteWe actually didn't do Elf on the Shelf but something very similar. I can certainly see how Christmas in the summer would bring a smile to anyone's face. :)
ReplyDeleteWe just received our Elf on the Shelf this month and I am very excited about introducing his magic into our home. Our boys will love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun idea. Not sure if I will ever do it though as my kids are getting a little too old Amber N
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy elf on the shelf every year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I love it! Your girls look very happy. I should do something like this for my son.
ReplyDeleteI love the mid-summer surprise! I haven't done it with my kids, and I'm not sure if I want to or not.
ReplyDeleteI hate that creepy little thing. Ach!! I love the funny little stories people come up with though and also I think whoever devised it is an evil genius!!
ReplyDeleteThis look like such a fun idea. Great way to keep the holidays alive all year long.
ReplyDeleteThis is a cute idea! I've never done Elf on the Shelf and now I think I've missed the window as they've all pretty much grown out of it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fantastic idea! They look so happy! So important to keep the magic alive year round!
ReplyDeleteHaha what a fantastic idea - I totally want to do Elf on the Shelf myself! x
ReplyDeleteThey don't filly believe but I am going to try again this year.
ReplyDeleteWe've never done Elf on the Shelf but with all the hype and fun that I see every year-- I'm thinking of doing it this year with my family!

I have to admit, I've never understood the whole Elf on a shelf crazy. I know my son would like, it but its just not my thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny! Our Elf is packed up in his "summer home" in the storage area right now.
ReplyDeleteHow fun for them to get Christmas gifts in the summer. They looked like they enjoyed it! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I finally received my first Elf on the Shelf and I'm super excited to create memories with my kids. I just hope I don't freak them out.
ReplyDeleteMy middle son was scared to death of this elf on a shelf so I had to tell him it wasn't true. So we are doing things for my youngest one. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh my so funny! This reminds me of my kids when they see a package on the porch addressed to them or at least I tell them it's for them...they tear into it!
