Allison telling me about her new friend. Each year she goes on and on about a new friend she has made, and it always turns out to be a special needs child. I love how she befriends them without a second thought about it. She's been doing this since 1st grade. A few autistic girls, a deaf girl, and now, just yesterday she told me about her new friend who is "bald and doesn't have eyebrows." I asked if the girl had cancer and she just shrugged and said "I didn't ask. We just played." Simple as that. It makes me happy that she can just be so accepting of others, without boundaries.
This one probably makes me a bad neighbor, but it brings me joy that my neighbor got the worst of the storm this week instead of us. I'm sorry he has a split tree in his yard, but am glad that for once it isn't our yard that took the hit.
Listening to my girls be nice to each other when they don't think I can hear them. Allison puts aloe on Mariah's sunburned skin and Mariah tells Allison she has beautiful hair. I love catching those shared sweet sister moments. It's a rare thing.
Watching the sunset on the beach. Nothing is more calming for me.
What were some of your little joys this week?
That is SO sweet about Allison and it really says a lot about the way you guys raised her. She is going to do great things one day.
ReplyDeleteAllison is an empath... it's a superpower.... I have it too... Most of the empaths, beside sensing pain and suffering in others and having the powers to calm them down and to emit energy to others, can also sense the evil in bad people from the first moment....
ReplyDeleteI love you you describe it as a "superpower". She definitely has something about her that tends to draw others toward her. The teachers actually admitted that they use her to help the ones with special needs do their school work. They say she can get through better to them. She also escorts them to the nurses station for their meds and such. I am hoping this leads her down the road to becoming something along the lines of a special education teacher. Something I always thought I would do myself before starting a family.
Deleteit is a special power :) it involves using more than those average 10% of our brains, especially the secret, unknown parts of it which hide special powers such are strong empathic powers, psychic powers, bioenergy, and such things.
Delete10%? I wish....
DeleteJust being friends and not caring about the rest, a great quality to have indeed
ReplyDeleteMy niece was always like Allison with special needs kids. She even started a cheer leading squad for special needs kids. She had to become a cheer leader herself, and she didn't event want to be a cheer leader, but became one anyhow. She now is in college. She's dating a guy that has Alopecia. That could be what Allison's friend has. They have a disorder with their hair.
ReplyDeleteYou'd think that since there's a kid in our family that has special needs, my kids would be more accepting of people that are different. Isaak's more accepting, and sentimental than Mica is.
My kids have had good days at school. I was actually going to blog about the highs and lows of them starting back up at school, and haven't gotten to it all just yet.
Your niece rocks! How great she took the initiative to start up a cheer squad for the special needs kids. I bet they had a blast getting to participate in that!
DeleteI had no idea what Alopecia was, so I Googled it. Very interesting! I like to be informed of these things in case the girl ever comes over to play. If there are any special things we need to do in order for her to be comfortable here, it's good to know ahead of time.
I can't wait to hear how Mica and Isaak's school days are going :)
That's so awesome. My son has autism and lately, he's been coming home telling me that nobody likes him and he has no friends (which isn't true, he has lots of little friends in his preschool-- he's repeating what he heard from his cousin) But I fear that once he starts mainstreaming that his flapping, eye avoidance, and other quirks will become more noticeable and he really end up with fewer friends.
ReplyDeleteAre you close to a beach? We have to drive so far and I miss it. I love catching the kids be nice to each other too. And I love your daughter's acceptance of other children, that's a rare and awesome thing.
ReplyDeleteWe usually go to the beach that's about 25 minutes away. If Jason gets off work early enough, we can get there by 7pm. And since it's so late, we don't have to pay to get in!
DeleteYour daughter sounds like a sweet girl. Your neighbor's poor tree- I'd be glad it wasn't mine, too.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter had a friend over and they included her younger sister. That was a nice joy!
ReplyDeleteMy boys soccer games this week, shopping with my girls, and just hanging out were my joys!
ReplyDeleteWe had to cut down a big tree a few years ago because we figure it would fall over one day
ReplyDeleteI am a very powerful empath. Super human power! Mine consumes me on a daily basis. I spend hours crying and feeling others pain. I wears me out.
ReplyDeleteThose are some awesome little joys! Some of mine are the kids getting excited about school next week and confirming a local blogging event I have been hoping to start planning!
ReplyDeleteI love watching the sunset on the beach too. I grew up in Jamaica near beautiful beaches and I miss that alot
ReplyDeleteYour daughter sounds like a bright young lady! I bet she has a great future ahead of her! I love how she doesn't ponder on the differences between her and her friends, instead she just accepts them as they are and plays with them!
ReplyDeleteCall 1-855-637-4055 to consider a skilled medium reading. I'd really like spend a series of time to help let an individual know about MY OWN most recent gratis medium chat page. I've been operating genuinely difficult, thank an individual for enabling me to mention the together with you.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I wish there were more girls like her! Way to go
ReplyDeleteThis type of post is a great way to remind ourselves to be thankful for the little things. Beautiful picture of the sunset!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I will miss the boys when they go back to school. I would say one of the joys was being able to spend one more day at the beach. (That's when we saw Taylor Swift's house.) That is a sweet story about your daughter's new friends. :)
ReplyDeleteThis weeks little joys were - Kingers got a Thumbs Up from the vet this week - I spend three fun days with Isa and we were able to check two projects off our to do list!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post Theresa! Bless Allison and her kind heart. A rare gem for sure!
ReplyDeleteI'm sad when summer comes to an end too. I miss the sleeping in and no schedules. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt is important to look back at life and remember the good times we have had. Too often we concentrate only on the bad - the tree fell, bad. But the tree did not fall on your property, good.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter sounds amazing! I'm so glad that the tree wasn't in your yard- yikes, your poor neighbor!
ReplyDeleteYour girls are so sweet. One of my feel good moments of the week was when my son and his friends were talking about school on Thursday. The other boys said they loved their new teacher, and Elliott said he had the best teacher ever. And one of the boys agreed and said he wished I was HIS teacher, too. :)
ReplyDeletewe'll always have the memories. It's important to hold onto those as they get older and more independent
ReplyDeleteBeach sunsets are kind of amazing, aren't they? :) Love that photo!
ReplyDeleteThis week we moved into our new home. It will be a fresh start for us. I also have a child entering his first year of college. Lots of excitement.
ReplyDeleteMy little joy this week was taking my nephew to an amusement park. He starts back to school next week, so it was nice to have some fun time just the two of us.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so sweet. Sunsets are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWe took an impromptu trip to the pool this week, to splash around with a friend. It was great fun.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter sounds like such a sweet soul. That's really touching how open and accepting she is.
ReplyDeleteMy little joy was from when I signed up for my college program. I am going back to school for a whole new type of schooling, and I'm stoked!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely love sunsets at the beach! We need to get out there more often
ReplyDeleteAww, I love reading that about your daughter making new friends. I love hearing, "I didn't ask, we just played" - I wish adults could be innocent like that.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures! Hope you have a great week to come!
ReplyDeleteThat's a sweet and kind quality for your daughter to have, compassion and love for everyone. I actually miss my kids when they're in school too.
ReplyDeleteYou are raising a great kid mama. I love that she just said I didn't ask we just played. It would be great if adults could be like that too.
ReplyDeleteWatching the sunset on the beach is so serene. I love it. I need to do it more often.
ReplyDeleteLove those moments when my kids are being sweet to each other just because. :)
You have a great daughter. I am sure you are proud of her.
