2014 Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program Helps Children with Needed School Supplies

*Disclosure- I received a sample product to help facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

Starting the school year can be an exciting time for most students. It's a time for new beginnings, making new friends, and learning new things. But it can also be a challenging time for families when money is tight. Even though we live in a great nation that offers free education, there are still expenses associated with sending our children to school. They need so many supplies -  backpacks, paper, pens, rulers, folders... Those expenses can really start to add up, and some families simply can not afford to send their children to school with those much needed supplies. Children should be worrying about getting good grades, and not worrying about if they are going to have the tools necessary to achieve those grades. The Office Depot Foundation is doing their part to make sure many children are going to start the year off on the right foot by sending them to school with the necessary supplies needed to have a successful school year.

Office Depot Foundation

In 2014, The Foundation is donating 350,000 sackpacks throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico, as well as many other countries. The sackpacks come in 7 different colors, and are specially designed with fun new patterns for 2014. Each sackpack contains a pen, pencil, 4 crayons, pencil sharpener, eraser, 6 inch rule, and a zippered pencil pouch.

Office Depot Sackpack

There are NO Office Depot or Office Depot Foundation logos or markings on the bags, with the exception of the removable paper tag. They want children to feel proud to carry the sackpacks, without the risk of being stigmatized by something that could be identified as an act of charity. My girls thought the designs were trendy and stylish, and a whole lot of fun!

The Office Depot Foundation has given away more than 3 million sackpacks since its inception 14 years ago. This year they will be giving away another 350,000 sackpacks to those in need.

Here is a short 2 minute video on the program. It's beautiful to see how happy the children are to receive their sackpacks!

  7. I love these little drawstring backpacks. They are great for small items. I tried using them for books though and the thin straps dug into my arms. But, for folks that need them, something is better than nothing!

  9. Such a great cause because so many kids are headed back to school and parents are wondering how to pay for it. Our church gave out 3500 backpacks this last month! Not nearly 3 million but every bit we can do helps right! Go Home Depot!

  22. I love seeing that companies make a difference in their community. My husband's company donated a ton of loaded backpacks this year. He got to stuff 50 backpacks and take them to a low-income school in our own community.

  30. I love this! We have programs like that around here, but they are always labeled and the kids that actually need and utilize these programs are left feeling some kind of way because everyone knows where their stuff came from. I love that they do not do this!
