You Never Forget Your First Concert!

I was 12. I had just won some fabulous concert tickets from the radio station and was so excited! This was going to be great! Not only because it was a free for me concert, but because we had awesome seats and it was going to be my first concert experience ever! My excitement quickly fizzled when we arrived at the stadium and they informed us they changed it to open seating. Even though my tickets were for almost right on the stage, I had to sit up in the balcony, nose bleed section because we arrived too late to get up close. How crummy was that!? Since then, I kind of became a seat snob. I will stalk an upcoming show until the day the tickets go on sale. If I can't get within the first 10 rows or so, I don't go. If I am going to drop more than $50 on tickets to an event, I want to see what's going on!

So, when Jason tried talking me into taking the girls to a Fall Out Boy concert a week before the show, I said no. One does not buy tickets that close to the event and expect good seats! But, after a little more persuasion, and the fact that I remembered that Allison had "go to a concert" on her bucket list for this year, and since she has never been to one, I gave in. They were on tour with Paramore, which we happen to like too, so the ticket prices, even for crummy seats, were justifiable.

I could barely make out the people on the stage, but at least I could see them from my camera lens ;)

I did worry about it being not age appropriate for a 10 year old. Not so much the songs (I think there were about 2 F bombs dropped during the show) but I was worried about the behavior of the other concert goers. Thankfully, everyone seemed to be on their best behavior, just wanting to come and have a good time.

Overall, the show was way beyond fabulous! This event taught me that it is ok to have crappy seats. I got to experience watching my daughter have a magical time going to her first concert, and we all got to rock out together as a family.

What was the first concert you ever went to?

  1. I've never been to a concert of an international star, but we did have some of them performing in my country in recent years, from Beyonce to Jennifer Lopez. Amy Winehouse had that tragic last concert of hers here too when she was booed off the stage LOL

    1. Oh, yes. I remember hearing about her getting booed off stage! I didn't remember it being done is Serbia though. You meanies ;) haha

It sounds like you do have some good acts coming through. You should definitely try to hit one up some time. There's nothing quite like the energy and excitement of going to a big show!

    2. Well she came on stage all drunk and drugged and didn't even know where the hell she was :) While translating the book of her idiot dad about her, I came upon an info that after the concert she, in her boozed up delirium, thought it was a successful one.....

We actually have EXIT music festival in Novi Sad, which is one of the biggest ones in Europe, you'd probably like that one since you prefer rock music.

    3. I am pretty sure she could have been my sisters twin acting like that, and then still thinking she was hot stuff.

Actually, I love all kinds of music, not just rock. I think I have the weirdest mix on my ipod. If someone ever stole it, I'm sure they'd be scratching their heads at the combination of songs in it lol.

    4. She indeed did think she was hot... she would come up to her dad and ask him 'Daddy, am I pretty?' and he would say yes..... And we all know she was the most unattractive dirty thing ever to appear on stage.... And what's worst she actually hated her fans and audience.... she was totally self observed and self-centred .....

    5. I shouldn't, but I couldn't help but laugh at this comment. You really hit her personality spot on!

  2. My first concert ever was Weird Al and I will swear on a stack of bibles that it was the best concert I have ever been to. He really knows how to put on a show.

    1. I was obsessed with him when I was a tween. I think that would have been an amazing first concert to go to! Lucky You!!!

  3. OMG - I don't actually remember...maybe it was U2. Glad you all had a great time at the show. I did have 3rd row for Elton John and Billy Joel back in the 90ies. That was a fun show. I know what you mean about being a "seat snob" once you have great seats!

  4. You even got shirts for the occasion!! How fun. I didn't ever go to a concert until I was in my 30's then it was to see Chubby Checker as an old guy. LOL...

  5. New Kids on the Block was my first concert - in the late 80s. It was the best! (I've since seen them twice as an adult - and it was just as much fun, even with awful seats.)

  11. Oh geez my first concert was No Doubt back in high school. LOL I honestly do not remember most of it.

  12. That's great that you let her go. :) I'm surprised they let you take pictures. At many concerts here they won't let us.

The first concert I had been to was 311. That was before they got pretty big. They went to my high school. They had concerts sort of in an underground place. I'm surprised my mom let me go. I'm trying to remember how I even got there. Maybe a friend drove. I was in high school.

    1. Nearly everyone had their camera phones out taking pictures. I saw a lot of people recording the entire show on their phone. I would rather try to enjoy the experience live than try to watch it through a crummy phone video later. But whatever floats their boat, I suppose.

  13. Hurrah, I'm glad you had a good time.

I stood in line for Phil Collins seats once, got there way early and was one of the first in line. After hours of waiting for the ticket booth to open, they came in at start time and called everyone who had a wrist band up first (they won them off the radio). By the time I got there, it was nosebleed seats so I just left with no tickets. That was a long time ago but I'm still p.o'd about it. ;)

  14. So glad you decided to go and you and your family had a great time. The first concert I remember is Kiss and Ozzy. My older siblings wanted to go so my mom and aunt took all us kids.

  15. I've never been to a major concert. I've never been a fan of crowds so don't think I'll ever go to one with 1,000s of fans.

  16. Sounds like a fun first concert. I don't remember my first concert, but my most recent one was probably back when I took my daughter and niece to see Alabama.

  29. I am a bit of a seat snob LOL I also chase tour buses from state to state. Yep, I'm THAT crazy fangirl!! My 1st concert was Night Ranger... what?? It was the 80's, they were so in! ;)

  30. I think my first concert was DC Talk, but it might have been Audio Adrenaline or Newsboys. I saw them all the same year, and don't remember which was first. I was 12.

We are taking Elliott to his first concert next month. We are seeing Casting Crowns and he is sooo excited. We are slightly concerned because of his age, but it's a Christian band, so the concerts are usually tame. They are his second favorite band right now.

  40. How much fun!!! My first concert was boyz 2 men and TLC....it was the coolest and the first without my parents!!!

  41. My first concert was the best. It was Doug E. Fresh and the crazy thing is I sat on his lap for half of the concert until he went on the stage. I was 10 years old and it was epic. I ran into him when I was in college and he said he remembered. I died! If he did or didn't...that made him my favorite concert memory for life.
