A Christmas Story In Hammond, Indiana

Last year we went to Hammond, Indiana. The visitor's center there had a fun, and free A Christmas Story window display set up. They had about 6 window displays up, all featuring different scenes from the movie.

A Christmas Story Window Display

If you would like to see them all, you can go to last year's post HERE. We liked it so much, we decided to go back again this year. While we love the displays, we were there to visit Santa's Mountain.

It's free to visit Santa, but Warner Bros. decided to be real Grinch-like and not allow you to take personal photos with Santa on the mountain. If you want a picture, you have to pay $5. I figured it was reasonable enough, so we went ahead and had a family photo made. It comes with a really cute A Christmas Story frame, but my scanner sucks and was doing a crummy job scanning it properly.

The best part is getting to go down the slide! What kid didn't want to ride down that awesome slide (minus the face kicking elf) when watching the movie!? This one was a smaller version, but fun all the same.

No visit is complete until you recreate the famous flagpole scene!

A Christmas Story window displays and Santa visits go on every day, through the rest of the year at the Hammond, Indiana visitors center. If you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping in for a visit!

Do you watch A Christmas Story every year like my family does?

    1. Yeah, it is small. There's a 100 pound weight limit and Allison was pretty ticked that I didn't go down because of it.

    1. I want to go to the musical so bad! And I also want to plan a trip to go to the real house in Ohio. It's only about a 5 hour drive from here, but I am having a heck of a time convincing Jason to make the trip :(

  8. HAHA! It's not Christmas until we watch A Christmas Story. There's usually a cable network that runs the movie for 24 hours straight so I can get my fill then!

  25. What fun! Last fall my husband and I went down to Ohio for a few days. The Christmas Story house is there. Someone (the little brother) bought the house (it was up for auction) where the movie was filmed (its in a neighborhood, no movie studio here) and it's all original and restored. Across the street is a museum and gift shop in another house. The actual house has a walk through tour. It was so much fun and really interesting to see.

  26. Oh, what fun! $5 for a picture isn't too bad. You can't take a pic with our mall Santa unless you've paid for a pic and the cheapest package is $15!

    1. We can't at the mall either. They didn't post signs up, so my husband tried taking some with his phone. The photo lady literally slapped his hand away and said "No personal photos on our set!" Last time we ever visited a mall Santa!

  31. The slide does look fun. My family moved from the Chicago area before I was born, but sis was born there. I grew up close to Ft Wayne Indiana, which was the closest big city. Good times.

  35. Hammond Indiana is not too far from me!! I had no idea this was something you could do. I am totally going to look into doing this with the family.

  36. A Christmas Story is my fave holiday movie and I watch it several times during the holidays. I'd love to go there and see all the displays referencing the movie. $5 actually isn't too bad to pay for a holiday photo. Our local mall charged $25 for kids to get their pic taken with Santa...highway robbery! You look real stunning in the family pic.
