I can hardly believe that my girls will be on summer vacation in less than 2 months! With the end of the school year approaching and the weather warming up, we are in full summer vacation planning mode right now. Plane travel isn't in the cards for us, but we intend to take a few road trips this summer. Of course, we are starting our vacation with a bang to Cedar Point, followed by another day trip to Chicago. We have also been toying with the idea of taking an extended road trip to New York, maybe taking in Niagara Falls while there. If that doesn't happen, I would like to explore the caves in Tennessee. No matter what destination we choose, I know one of the most important things about our road trip will be to make sure we have our car stocked with summer road travel essentials. Thankfully, CVS/pharmacy has everything we need for smooth travels.
Road trips can be fun, but if you aren't prepared, can lead to stressful situations. Keeping these basics on hand will help you get to your destination as seamlessly as possible.
Bandages- Because kids ALWAYS find a way to get a little scratch or bump that requires a bandage.
Multi-Surface Wipes- Kids are messy! No matter how far we travel, there is always bound to be a sticky mess that needs to be cleaned up before we even get out of the car.
Facial Tissues- It never fails. When you don't have one handy, kids needs them. So I keep a multi-pack of tissues stashed all over the car to prevent snotty or slobbery seats.
Sunblock- Those harsh sun rays come beating through the windows, it's good to keep a tube handy to avoid nasty burns that are sure to ruin any trip.
Multivitamins- Healthy kids = happy kids = happy parents.
Pain Relief- It doesn't matter if we are in the car for 5 minutes or 5 hours. My kids take each car ride as an opportunity to nit pick at each other. Headaches are always bound to pop up when that happens. It's also great for sore or stiff muscles from sitting in the driver seat for long periods of time.
Snacks- Arguably one of the most important road trip essentials. When kids are hungry, they complain. And whine. And complain some more. We make sure we have more than enough healthy snacks to keep the kids satisfied until we reach our destination. Gold Emblem Abound is the perfect solution for us because they are free of all artificial preservatives and flavors, and are made with wholesome ingredients. And they taste great too!
You can find everything you need for your summer road trip in your nearest CVS/pharmacy or at www.cvs.com.
What road trip destinations do you have planned for this summer?
Great idea - stocking early. Sounds like some great vacation choices.
ReplyDeleteOne can never be too prepared for car trips with kids!
DeleteI've no idea what gumodino is but I'd eat the whole jar of it, methinks
ReplyDeleteYou'd be super healthy then, or super sick since they are multivitamins :)
Deletemaybe they would give me dino powers :)
DeleteRawr ;)
DeleteIt is ALL about the snacks. We just did an 8 hour road trip and we loaded up the car with all of the kids favs.
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun seeing your travels on Instagram, Robin! Looks like you all are having a blast!
DeleteSounds like you have lots of fun places planned. Nitpicking is the way to be on car rides haha no where to go at my show
ReplyDeleteIt seems they save all their grievances with each other for when we are all trapped in the car together! Why!?
DeleteRoadtrip = so much work for parents. I just bring snacks and directions and I'm good.
ReplyDeleteHappy new week, Theresa.
So true, Robyn! It's sometimes more work preparing for the car ride than the vacation!
DeleteThese are great tips. Hunger and a bad sunburn do not a fun trip make.
ReplyDeleteThe only concrete plan we have for the summer right now is that we have no concrete plan. =D If we do take a road trip, snacks will definitely be a part of that.
ReplyDeleteSnacks are so important for road trips! My kids get pretty cranky when they're hungry.
ReplyDeleteWe will be heading to New Orleans and to Florida this summer. I need to make a essentials kit for the car. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely cannot take a road trip without snacks and something for a headache. ESPECIALLY when you have three kids!
ReplyDeleteOne of the worst sunburns I ever had was from driving in a car in Florida--------bringing along sunblock and a hat is a very good idea. Everything else seems to be a necessity also--especially the pain killers!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely all essentials for road trips! We go on a lot of them too, because my family is so scattered throughout the states.
ReplyDeleteI remember getting some neon bandaids when I was little, and asking my mom to bring them to a baseball game my brother was playing. Some kid got hurt, guess who was the only people with bandaids?
ReplyDeleteMy mom was really bad and still is about having bandaids ready at home or in the car. I got burnt by the oven once, and there wasn't a single bandaid in the house. That kind of sucked.
We usually take a big one, but since Travis switched jobs I'm thinking just camping on some weekends, and maybe a trip to Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteSnacks are a road trip must - for sure! We like to pack fresh fruit too.
ReplyDeleteThese are definitely some good things to bring along. I'm planning a few smaller road trips soon just for fun.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great! I'm glad you shared! I'm not sure we will be travelling any time soon but I am glad to have this handy!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great list of road trip essentials. We will need some sunscreen when we go to the water park.
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for summer but when is the warm weather going to get here. We are still having rain and cold weather and I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI plan to make a small first aid kit to keep in my car at all times and includes some of the great items you shared. Traveling as a family is tough, so I am always up for ways to make things less difficult.
ReplyDeleteNo kiddos and I don't drive, for me a 'road trip' is hopping on a Greyhound and heading out to Atlantic City for the weekend! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a good list of goods for a road trip though! Pass me the snacks! :-)

I'm taking a trip to Canberra in July and wondering if I should take my car there. I's probably the same distance as driving LA to Dallas :P
ReplyDeleteSnacks definitely!
ReplyDeleteWell you seem to be very busy traveling this summer. simply awesome! Glad to read about great wasy to keep sane, healthy and not hungry on the road
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff for a long road trip! For headaches I prefer to take Niacin (vitamin B3) in higher doses, it gets rid of any migraines without the side effects of SSRIs.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of snacks, now I want some!
I haven't started planning yet, and it's stressing me out. Since I've got a lot to do to get ready, I'm happy to know that CVS can be my one-stop shop for all my road tripping needs.
ReplyDeleteSo important to keep a stash of band-aids! I definitely have a kid injury when we travel
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with these essentials! My family travels a lot during the summer, and all of these are a must for us!
ReplyDeleteFantastic products. Great travel kit.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, Theresa!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTotally needed it. I make many road trips and this is it ;)
ps- love your blog's new look
ReplyDeleteDon't have any road trips planned this summer. But you do have all of the essentials for when you travel.
ReplyDeleteI have an ER kit for the car and for people in case anything happens. I do need to pack a kit that has snacks, too. Both in case of an ER and just for traveling. Great tips.
ReplyDeleteThese are most certainly essentials! I think snacks are the most important too!
ReplyDeletehi Theresa!
ReplyDeleteGreat items and ideas here. thanks! Yay, for you getting Madden Girl shoes in your 'repertoire'. I love all of my Steve Madden / Madden Girl brands. Super comfy and thrift power purchases are even more awesome!!

Roadtrip are fun but so much work for parents. This is a great post about the essentials of family travel.
ReplyDeleteGood traveling list. We travel a lot - time to get our bag packed and ready to go.
ReplyDeleteI have to add paper towels, wipes and changes of clothes. My son gets car sick out of no where, even if we take precautions. We try to limit our road trips as much as we can due to this.
ReplyDeleteSnacks and yes to the bandaids! It seems that our kids always need the bandaids while out and about.
ReplyDeleteI love having snacks on road trips. They're an essential part of them!
ReplyDeleteSummer vacay is coming way too fast. I don't know where this year is going!! You've got a good road trip supply checklist going on here.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! Summer vacation will be here soon and we need to stock up!
ReplyDelete~Amanda
This is such a great idea! We plan to head to Chicago this July so I will be stocking up on these supplies!
ReplyDeleteNo road trip planned yet this year, but would love to get one on the books! I already keep wipes in the car; a necessity for sure!
ReplyDeleteSome great planning there Theresa. I do love a good road trip! Enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteI really love to have some road trips this summer but I hope I will be strong enough at that time :). Can't agree more with your list and I have to sat wipes and snacks are always available in my car. Plus lots of bottled water, lots of them :)
