Who's doing a little Memorial Day cookout this weekend? We probably won't be hosting one, as our deck is only half way complete, but we did get a few invitations to others. Never one to arrive to a gathering empty handed, I thought I'd try a new cookie recipe from Golden Blossom Honey to take to our cookouts this weekend. I did a test run of these Butter Cookies yesterday, and they reminded me of my favorite sugar cookie, but only calls for 1/2 the sugar I normally use in them. They were so soft, moist and chewy, just how I love my cookies. And, even though my dogs are very good about staying off the counters, I'm pretty sure they helped themselves to a few while I was out working in my garden today! They're so tasty, they turn a good soul into a bad one, I tell ya!
Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
GET THE FULL RECIPE HERE
The cookies are very easy to cut out and shape, as well as decorate with royal icing. I am feeling a little more patriotic this year as my sweet, first born nephew just left this week for his training in the Marines.
Photo swiped from his dad's Facebook page ;) |

seems easy peasy... kinda like shortbread recipe?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think they are like shortbread, but I can't recall if shortbread cookies are crunchy or chewy?
Deletecrunchy when they cool off! You have a recipe for Earl Grey shortbread in my DEZZ IN THE KITCHEN album over at Facebook :)
DeleteYou're so much better than Martha Stewart will ever be. Those look great. I wonder what they do to a bad soul...I'm wondering, uh, for a friend. Wink.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, Theresa.
They turn them into someone who's a blast to be around ;) Have a great weekend, Robyn!
DeleteHow awesome for your nephew. My step-son leaves next month for the Army (after he graduates).
ReplyDeleteThat's Great Robin! Wishing him all the best in the Army!
DeleteRobin- tell your stepson thank you for his service. My oldest son wanted to join but with his heart issues he is not able to. He is so disappointed that he can not follow his dad's footsteps.

ReplyDeleteMy brother had a friend who didn't join the army with him because he found it too rough. So he then joined the Marine Corps... My brother has told me some stories about some of the physical requirements, but I've always assumed the Marines (from their reputation of toughness) would have greater challenges.
ReplyDeleteI really want to try baking some cookies and decorating with icing - I love the pretty look of iced cookies! I love that this recipe has less sugar!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies will sure be a hit I bet. All the best to your nephew
