When we were up at the ice festival a few months back, we decided to stop for lunch at the Getaway Grille & Cubbie Bar located in Bridgman, Michigan. Jason's been wanting to dine there for a while, so he was pretty excited to finally get the chance to go in for a bite.
I imagine if I were to let Jason take over the decorating of our home, it would turn out exactly like the Getaway Grille & Cubbie Bar's setup. From the minute you set foot on the property, you are immersed in all things Chicago Cubs. The bear paw walkway will lead you to a dining experience that's almost as fun as being in The Friendly Confines itself.
The interior is fully decked out in Cubs memorabilia. From the decoupaged baseball card tables, to the player photos on the walls, and the fun little signs, a true Cubs fan will get a kick out of the atmosphere.
Even the walls are painted to resemble the brick wall at Wrigley Field, and they made sure to add in the ivy, too.
Not a space is left untouched by Cubs decor. Our waiter told us to check out the bathrooms which have the Cubs Greats hand drawn onto the walls.
As much fun as the decor is, we really were there to eat. The menu consists of Cubbie eats, from the Holy Cow Burger, Lost in the Ivy Salads, Seventh Inning Stretch Sandwiches, and Batter Up Baskets.
How can you go wrong with ordering when you can have St. Louis Sucks, Don't Hate On 1908, or a Bleacher Bum? The food was really scrumptious and portion sizes were fair. Allison had the Irish Nachos and Jason ordered the Italian Beef. My only complaint was there weren't really any options for vegetarians except for the salads, which was a bit disappointing. They were totally cool though and allowed me to order the mushroom & Swiss burger minus the beef patty and added extra sauteed mushrooms to the bun to make up for the loss.
If you just want to stop in for a drink, head over to the bar for a cold one and watch the game on the big screens.
Once we were finished with our meal, we took a few minutes to admire the outdoor decor.
Then took a few photos with the stadium seating prop :)
If you're a Chicago Cubs fan, a visit to the Getaway Grille & Cubby Bar is a must. You won't be disappointed!
Do you watch baseball? Who's your favorite team?
I was glad the cubs did win last year
ReplyDeleteUs too ;)
DeleteLook at your there posing like you own the place :PPP
ReplyDeleteWhy did they chain those poor animals, I know they're plastic, but still, poor cow and poor goat, isn't it enough that they serve them in their burgers :(
PS it is so unusual seeing Jason without a hat, he always seems to wear one!
DeleteI'm sure the chain is running through all the statues so they don't get stolen. They are lightweight and can be easily hauled off.
DeleteJason usually wears a hat outside because of his bald head. It sunburns pretty easily, even with the sunblock (gotta love that fair Irish skin). It was very overcast that day, so he didn't feel the need to put on a hat ;)
I had to look up 'decoupaged' to see what it means. That's because I don't have a crafty bone in my body. ;) That does look like a fun place. I'm glad you got to go, and your husband does look especially delighted. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad I could teach you something new today Rosey lol ;) He definitely was delighted to stop in!
Deletefu place, need to go if I ever come back to the States!
ReplyDeleteFUN***
DeleteGirl, you get back to the States, we're hooking up in Chicago. I'll take you out for some deep dish pizza!
DeleteMy nephew that's Isaak age loves baseball. He pitches for a team that's older than he is. It's like he was born to be a ball player.
ReplyDeleteI like to watch it every so often, but don't have a favorite team.
Oooh, maybe you'll have the next big deal in baseball in your family in a few short years!
DeleteI love restaurants like this. This is my kind of décor and food...only it would be for the Red Sox and not the Cubs. Sorry not sorry :)
ReplyDeleteWell, as long as you aren't rooting for the Yankees, it's all good ;)
DeleteGetaway Grille is SUCH a great place! A friend of mine took me there the last time I was in Chicago, and it was so much fun. The food is AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteOooh. I had no idea this place existed, but you better believe I'll be checking it out! I'm scheduled to return to the Chicago area in a few months for a conference, and this going on my list of places to eat!

ReplyDeleteI am not much of a baseball fan, but my husband roots for the Phillies. I would still love to visit the Getaway Grille and Cubbie Bar because it is such an interesting place. There are so many things to learn about the Cubs just by reading the stuff on the walls while I enjoy such delicious food and drinks.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool place to visit, even if you're not a fan!! Interesting memorabilia!

ReplyDeleteI'm not much into baseball but live in Illinois so it was a big deal that they won. I would totally eat at that place. The decor is neat, and I love the names of the food.
