You all know that my oldest daughter Mariah started college this fall. She's always been a huge lover of science, so she's working towards a degree in biochemistry with the hope of working in drug research and development once she has graduated. She likes to solve puzzles, so studying how the human body reacts to microbes, then finding ways it benefits the body or breaks it down is quite fascinating for her (No, she didn't get the love of science from me. I was horrible at it!)
Now that the holidays are here, I am trying to knock out my gift shopping. If you know Mariah, you know that she is super hard to buy for. I've gotten to the point where I pass on the gift buying responsibilities for her to my husband every year. However, this year I found gift ideas that I know she is going to love- GIANTmicrobes.
GIANTmicrobes offers a collection of hilarious and educational toy viruses, diseases, human body cells, and other organisms that make a great gift, stocking stuffer, or even White Elephant gift for your family and friends this holiday season. Send a subtle hint to your uncle with the Bad Breath plush, delight your nephew with Booger, send the new flame of your ex Chlamydia to give yourself a little giggle, and send that ex a Brain Cell or two:
Or, be nice and give your current flame Kissing Disease, Sperm & Egg, or even your Heart.
I think Mariah will get a kick out of Common Cold since she is studying disease. While a real cold bug is no fun, I actually think this little guy is kind of cute.
I am actually saving Tooth for my nephew since he will be losing his baby teeth soon. It has a little zipper pouch on the back of the plush where you can tuck away a lost tooth for the Tooth Fairy to come collect and leave behind a coin or two.
Each
of these little critters are inspired by the invisible microscopic
world and come with educational facts, so children and adults can both
can learn more about the invisible life that we are surrounded with
every day.
GIANTmicrobes plush are hilarious and make a fun little gag gift, but they do have other items to choose from also, like jewelry, socks, candles, coasters, cups, and key chains. If you can think of a germ or disease, they more than likely have a plush for it. I mean, I'd rather have someone spread the love through plush and not pass along actual germs, right? This is such a fun way to show someone you care. Or don't.
You can find all of the cute little critters shown here, plus many more by visiting GIANTmicrobes (if clickable link doesn't work, you can find them at www.giantmicrobes.com). Sprinkle the germs all around this holiday season. Your family and friends will love them :)
What microbe would you gift your loved one (or not so loved one?)
Can't believe there are people who love microbes :) Dahlink, you gave birth to a very weird one :PPPP I do often wonder from who do we get our brains from. Nobody in my whole clan and family has ever stepped in college or read a book, and here you have me an English literature professor :)
ReplyDeleteOMG Common Cold is the cutest! I'd feed it with some vitamin C and keep it warm :)
She is an oddball, that's for sure. Jason's sister is extraordinarily smart, so I think Mariah got her brains from that side of the family. You are just a rare gem it seems :)
DeleteIsn't Common Cold adorable? Almost makes me want to snuggle with him ;)
Whaaaat? How do we know cold is him?
DeleteOr her. Better? :)
Deletehaha that is a neat gift idea indeed. Those germs my ocd are fine with. Would be rather humorous to give the sperm and egg to one's other half.
ReplyDeleteI do think these are germs that even you could handle, Pat!
Deletewho the knew the common cold was so cute, is that why everyone has it all the time?
ReplyDeleteProbably. We're all running around trying to get our hands on the cute little guy.
DeleteThose are so cute! They'd be great gifts for a science teacher, too!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! Nurses too :)
DeleteThose giant microbe plushies are so cute! I think these are adorable, and they're a great way to turn something negative like being sick into something fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree! Illness is no fun, but we can definitely make ourselves feel better with a cute plush to snuggle with.
DeleteThose are the cutest things ever! I have to get some of these for my kids.
ReplyDeleteAren't they adorable? Who knew illness could be so cute (and funny too!)?
DeleteOh those are too cute - my daughter also wants to go into the medical field (she hasn't decided which specialty yet, though - but she has time). ;) She went to a STEM leadership training camp over the summer, and one of the topics they got to study was Medicine - she LOVED it!! So...now she wants to go to a specialty STEM course for just medicine - but they have to have finished 9th grade...so next summer. My favorite is the tooth for kids - but the cold is adorable as well. I'm not sure I would give someone the bad breath one, but that is funny! Haha!
ReplyDeleteThat's so great about your daughter! We need more women in the STEM fields. I read somewhere that like only around 20% of girls go into STEM, which I think is way too low. Far too long we've believed it's more for men, but I think as more women step into it, we'll see great improvements in those fields. It's nice that she has a resource like the training camps to help hone down what she wants to specialize in. Mariah always wanted to be a vet, but changed her tune last minute to medicine once she had to start dissecting animals. She realized she doesn't like blood lol. If she had a camp, she might have figured that out much sooner.
DeleteI went to the website again, and found one for Celiac Disease...too cute!!!!
DeleteWhat a cute gift idea, I would have never thought of this idea! I am not sure who and which one I will give, but I going to pick some up to hand out!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute- never thought I'd say that about a kidney, etc LOL I want to get the tooth for my grandson, he'll be losing a tooth soon
ReplyDeleteOh how clever are these little guys! They'll definitely be educational and they're super cute!
ReplyDeleteThese are all really cute. I need to get Tooth for my niece. She she is still losing her baby teeth.
ReplyDeleteDoes she read your blog? My daughter doesn't per say...she just comes over once and awhile and types in 'my daughter' so she can see what I'm saying about her, or gifting her, lolol. :) These are fun!! And that's a mouthful you said for her major and career goals!
ReplyDeleteI dont' think so. She does follow me on a few social media channels but never likes my stuff lol. Allison does the same thing your daughter does. She visits occasionally and does a search on her name to see what I'm saying about her. I usually get "Mom! Why did you say that!?" She takes it in stride though. She's a good sport.
DeleteAm I weird that I really really want these? They are cute! I think my cousin would love these, he likes Science!
ReplyDeleteNot weird at all! I saw a few more that I'm going back for (a few I want to keep for myself too!)
DeleteThese are so cute. I think the common cold looks so cute! Too bad actually having the common cold sucks.
ReplyDeleteI used to work in a hospital and they sold these in the gift shop. I got my kids a huge bacteria for Christmas one year!
ReplyDeleteThose are absolutely adorable. I love their names and they definitely would be great as a gag gift.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh - I've never heard of these before, but they look super cute. I love all the different things they have.
ReplyDeleteThese are so adorable!! I would love to get one for my son!
ReplyDeleteOh these are hilarious looking plush toys! I agree these would be better than spreading the actual germs. I will check out what other microbes or body parts they have. I am thinking of giving a urinary bladder or part of the rectum to my nephew. Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteWay to go for your daughter! I think it's awesome that more young women are interested in learning about the different parts of STEM. I think she'll love these gifts.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gift, not just for the kids but for friends as well. I think they're adorable and it's also one way to get the kids interested in science, biology in particular.
ReplyDeleteI like the heart. I'd probably give one to my Dad. He's had 2 heart surgeries. He's a really healthy guy, but his heart just doesn't beat regularly. He'll get it into control, then it's all over the place.
ReplyDeleteVery cute and perfect for someone who is fascinated with microbes. I could use a bushel of brain cells ~ LOL
ReplyDeleteAww these are so cute!!! And I love that tooth pouch too!!
