I'd have to say that my favorite stop in California was walking through the Venice Beach Canals.
I have always wanted to go to Venice, so it was kind of neat to see Venice Beach do their own little take on the famous canals in Italy. A whole neighborhood was dedicated to row after row of these charming canals, and it was fun to stroll along the pathways and over the bridges that had European influence with a California vibe.
While both sides of the canals are lined with sidewalks to make it easy to navigate the area, I think all of the homeowners also had their own boats or kayaks to cruise the waterways for pleasure. We saw a few people paddle boarding through them as well, and that looked like a lot of fun too!
As pretty as the canals were to look at, I think it was equally fun to admire the houses that lined them as well. I'll admit, I was walking through trying to decide which of houses I could fancy myself retiring in. Seriously, who wouldn't want to live in one of these beauties:
Apparently I am not the only one who was having dreams of relocating to the area. This homeowner had a little sign up letting people know that their home is not for sale. I'd be lying if my green eyed monster wasn't popping it's ugly head out on our stroll, but one can't stay bitter surrounded by such beauty.
Now that I've got a taste of the mock canals, I can't wait to get to Italy to see the real Venice canals! If you're headed out to Cali, make sure you carve out a little time for a leisurely stroll here. We were pressed for time and only got through about 1/4 of the area, but I'd love to go back some day to explore the whole area.
Would you like to visit the Venice Beach Canals or even the real Venice Canals some day? Have you already?
What gorgeous photos! Especially the first one! It is lovely to look at and spend some time there, but I'm not sure I'd like to live that close to water permanently!
ReplyDeleteIf I can't retire on the water, I'm going to be one sore lady. I've got Jason actively searching for houses on the coast even though we are a few years off from making that leap.
DeleteThat sure looks like a great spot. Some nice houses too. I'd sure stroll through there, but living near water, nah. For one it jacks up the price big time on real estate and for two, flooding. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteI do agree about the flooding. Our city had their own mini flood crisis last month when the snow rapidly melted. As for the area, Venice Beach is a dirty little tourist town, but the canals were in pristine shape. Very clean and pleasant to walk through.
DeleteI didn't know the California one existed
ReplyDeleteI had no idea either until my husband said we had to make a stop there. Glad he knew about it because we never would have seen it otherwise.
DeleteI had no idea they had canals like that there. How cool. Now I want to go for a visit :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's lovely and that sign that homeowner put out is funny.
ReplyDeleteI find it quite hilarious! I think they know they have a gem that others would be jealous of!
DeleteI never knew about the Venice Beach canals it is such a pretty area. The houses that line the canal also seem so nice, the next time I am there I have to see this area.
ReplyDeleteThat is charming. I'd like to go there for sure.
ReplyDeleteVenice Beach is one of those places that just screams AWESOME! The view and all of the things to do makes it one of the places I'd love to go see.
ReplyDeleteThis is my most favorite place in California! Your photos are absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so adorable. I would love to take a walk in that neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't want to live in one of these beauties? I wouldn't know. You can count me in. I'm ready to retire!
ReplyDeleteI would love to spend a weekend here! I am sure my kids will enjoy here!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to live there. Being born and raised in the city (and still living in one) gives me a great longing to move out into the quiet suburbs, even out in the country away from all the noise and pollution. This place is perfect! It looks so clean and beautiful. What an idyllic place to live in!
ReplyDeleteIt's sooo beautiful, Theresa. So colorful and peaceful as well! I have been to Venezia twice and I love the city sooo much as well.
ReplyDeleteYou have been so blessed with the amazing places you have been, Indah. I hope to be as traveled as you are some day!
DeleteI'm reminded of our visit to Fort Lauderdale when we walked along the canal. It was awesome and the weather was perfect, and I was reminded how much I like being near water...when there aren't mosquitoes involved. ;)
ReplyDeleteLoved looking at your gorgeous pictures! I've never been there, but added it to my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat is way more gorgeous than I imagined, and yep, retirement there doesn't look like it'd be too shabby. ;)
ReplyDeleteBut you've been to the real Venice. I'm sure retirement there would be much better ;)
Deletetell me about it.. I'm terrible at keeping up with my travel posts too haha. Would love a visit to actual Venice as well. This is a very nice alternative!
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
