I can't believe it's already time for back to school. Mariah is leaving today to head back to college and Allison will be starting her first year of high school next week. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I hate it when my girls have to go back. I love our carefree, unscheduled summer days where anything goes. But, time marches on and so do we. I will admit, I am pretty excited that the high school hours have been pushed back an hour and a half, so we can to sleep in a little later this year. I never liked making a hot breakfast super early, but now that we have more time in our mornings I'll be more inclined to make breakfast on the stove more often before school. I found this Energy Booster Breakfast on Golden Blossom Honey that is made as a hot breakfast, but doesn't take a lot of time to prepare. 10 minutes tops, so even if you don't have extra morning hours, you can still get a hot and nutritious breakfast on the table in a jiffy.
Oats are great for feeding the kids before school since they keep the tummy feeling full longer than other breakfast items. Instead of using water or milk, you cook the oats in apple cider, which I think is an amazing way to add flavor to this dish. The dash of cinnamon and cloves adds a hint of warmth, which would also make this the perfect breakfast for fall. I imagine I'll be making this for myself quite often this autumn. Paired with a steaming mug of tea, I'm almost excited for the crisp temps to kick in.
Ingredients
2 cups old fashioned oats3 1/2 cups apple cider
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
2 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
low-fat vanilla yogurt

Have your kids already started back to school?
You did such great photos, and lovely setting too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, dahlink!
DeleteYou guys sure go back early than here, but that I knew since I've been here a while haha sure looks like the perfect breakfast indeed.
ReplyDeleteSome areas go back after Labor Day, but we are usually the 2nd week of August here :(
DeleteI'm totally down with this breakfast. It looks really good.
ReplyDeleteMy kids start back next week. Isaak starts on Wed. Mica starts on Thurs. Basically the middle school has the 5th and 6th graders start a day early to give them a head start before 7th and 8th graders show up.
ReplyDeleteThe back to school night will suck. Both boys have their back to school night on the same night. They are in 2 different parts of town. Isaak's doing safety patrol, so he'll need to show up early. We may have to split up.
Good luck to both boys this school year! That's nice that the smaller kids can feel out the school without having the bigger kids in the way. I like that set up!
DeleteThat looks so good! A breakfast like that will power a child through an entire morning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stacie!
DeleteI think the local kids go back on the 20th or something like that.
ReplyDeleteSo, right around when we go back too. I have friends in the Northeast that don't go back until September.
DeleteI love breakfast recipes that doesn't just keep me full during the morning rush but also one that benefits my health. This is definitely something I'll make! Love that boosts your energy!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a filling and healthy breakfast option!
DeleteMy kids are all done with school and I am one proud momma with three kids all with Bachelor's degrees. This energy booster breakfast would be a good one to enjoy with the family. My two sons are still currently job hunting so a good healthy breakfast will give them that boost of energy and confidence when they show up for job interviews. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you for raising such amazing kids! Sounds like they are well on their way to successful adulting!
DeleteOur kids go back to school the week of Labor Day. Of course, they don't get out of school for the summer until June. A great breakfast like this is a great way to start their day.
ReplyDeleteI think I like your schedule better than ours. It's still a bit chilly here in May when ours get out. It seems like it's more of a summer break when you get out in the warm June month.
DeleteI love that it has cloves in it! School starts here soon too. I've already gone back for the teacher planning and PD weeks, and yesterday I got to meet all my students but one (I'm assuming she's the smart one who is either in vacay or milking summer to the very last second). 😊
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you this school year Rosey! I hope you get a well behaved class :)
DeleteThey're so so so so good. I've definitely hit the jackpot this year. :)
DeleteI can't believe it's back to school time already! I have no clue where the time has gone. I make it an important point to make sure our kids have breakfast in the morning before school.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like we were just getting out for summer break. Time sure flew by quickly these past few months!
DeleteMy grandson starts kindergarten in a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Kindergarten is such a fun age!
DeleteBreakfast is the most important meal of the day. Just as the word implies - "Breakfast = break the fast." With an awesome, delicious and healthy meal like this recipe of yours, the kids are sure to have the energy and enthusiasm to attend school.
ReplyDeleteIt really is such an important meal, especially since my daughter doesn't have lunch until after 1pm now. Gotta eat a healthy breakfast that will tide her over until lunchtime.
DeleteThis will be a great kick in the morning!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely!
DeleteThis oatmeal looks so pretty, mine is always a gray mess. But I like hot cereals for breakfast. I a retired so some days I eat early others not so much. Nothing like a bowl of oatmeal with honey to give you energy.
ReplyDeleteAdd a little fruit in to pretty it up a bit. I prefer hot breakfast over a cold bowl of cereal any day. Even if it's something as simple as warm avocado toast.
DeleteMy daughter couldn't wait to get back to school, too. We both love oatmeal in the morning.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny? My daughters both were itching to get back to school too. Gotta love it that our girls think school rocks!
