Did you hear the news that the Mediterranean diet has just won the best diet award for 2019? This is a diet that I've been intrigued by for the past few months as I am trying to cut down on the processed and refined foods that come into our house. Honestly, we'll probably never cut out all of the junk because of my weakness for baked goodies, but as long as we're taking steps to drastically reduce on our intake of the unhealthy foods and up our intake of the good ones, I think we're already headed in the right direction for improved health.
Since my husband struggles with high blood pressure and I struggle with inflammation, I am hoping that by adding more Mediterranean diet approved foods to our meal plan will help us heal naturally with food and lessen our dependency on prescription drugs. Because the Mediterranean diet is high in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber, the diet is a good one to help combat chronic disease. While most of the meals I cook at home are vegetarian, I will treat my husband to a seafood meal about once a week, so I was happy to hear that fish is a big staple in this diet. Since I was never a fish eater even before I became a vegetarian, I'm not too skilled on how too prepare it. However, when researching seafood dishes for Jason, I found this amazingly easy Salmon with Honey Mustard Sauce on Golden Blossom Honey that I knew that even I couldn't mess it up.
Not only is this recipe one of the easiest ones I have ever tried, it's also one of the quickest too. While the salmon is roasting in the oven, I'll toss some mixed veggies into my Power Quick Pot for steaming, so from start to finish, dinner can be on the table in 15 minutes. If you're looking for healthy meal options for your new year resolutions, you definitely can't go wrong with this Honey Mustard Salmon. And if you're following the true Mediterranean diet, I am sure you could swap olive oil for the margarine (or omit it all together) and still have one heck of a tasty meal.

ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you and your lovely family a Happy New Year!
Ai @ Sakura Haruka
I'm always impressed with your seafood catches that I see on your Instagram, Ai. I imagine it's extra tasty freshly caught!
DeleteI'll stick to my own eat nothing but the same thing over and over diet, seems to work haha fish would send me to the emergency room, so I'll avoid it.
ReplyDeleteStick to your chicken, Pat. We definitely wouldn't want you to end up in the emergency room!
DeleteIt's always been considered the best and healthiest way of eating. Most of what I eat is similar to Subterranean way of cooking. It is very easy to adopt and transfer your way of cooking into that one as it is very simple. It would even simplify and ease your everyday kitchen efforts. And you can always mix Greek, Lebanese, Italian recipes to ad some new flavours and use more of lentils, sesame and chickpeas.
ReplyDeleteI myself am interested in vegetarian Keto diet. I need to expel gluten from my food but I don't know how and have no time for it.
Effing auto correct - Mediterranean not Subterranean :)
DeleteI have been checking out the Mediterranean Diet cookbooks from the library and the recipes do sound very easy to follow. I have thought about doing the keto diet, but honestly don't think it's one I would stick to in the long run. I think that's the diet that my friend's husband is doing right now and my god, he's farted in our company and he STINKS! I think it makes your gas smell extra bad lol. I haven't cut out gluten yet, but we are mostly doing only doing gluten foods that have been made with whole grains. I have drastically reduced our refined grains and want to cut more out this year where possible.
DeleteI've actually has salmon and tuna fillets with honey mustard sauce. It's not bad on fish.
ReplyDeleteI always liked it on my shrimp. Honey mustard is a great condiment for many meat dishes.
DeleteThat sounds delicious. I love fish, and any time you add honey mustard to something, it's going to be great. I have to give this a try!
ReplyDeleteYes, honey mustard just gives that extra oomph to a dish!
