Summer is my favorite season because that's when we spend the most time together as a family. With the kids home from school, we don't have the sense of urgency to go, go, go like we do the rest of the year. We make more of an effort to just be together, whether it's participating in family game night, renting a movie and squishing together on on the couch, or my kid's favorite- spending time out on the deck around the fire pit.
There's something about being outdoors, sitting around the fire that makes my family set down their devices and just connect with each other. So many stories and laughs are shared during these times, it's no wonder why we enjoy it so much. Of course during these moments it's a given someone is going to bring up making smore's, so I always make sure I have the fixing for them tucked away, plus chilled A&W Root Beer on hand to wash down all that sticky, gooey goodness.
For me, summer doesn't start until the A&W comes out. It's been a staple in all of my summers for as far back as I can remember, and while times have changed since A&W got its start, its commitment to helping families connect with a bit of old-fashioned fun remains the same. Now that they are celebrating their 100th anniversary, A&W is asking you to help celebrate this wonderful milestone by participating in A&W Family Fun Nights.
In this ever changing world where technology is at the forefront of our lives, A&W is asking families to put down their devices and go technology-free for just 1 hour this summer, every Friday night. Get back to the root of being a family with time spent together, and a great way to do that is by roasting up some yummy smore's, busting out a bottle of A&W, and whipping up some classic root beer floats.
Take the pledge on www.rootbeer.com to go technology-free for 1 hour every Friday night, and you'll get a downloadable coupon for a FREE A&W 2 liter bottle!
To help you jump start your Family Fun Nights this summer, A&W debuts a first-of-its-kind Family Fun Night box, featuring a carefully curated selection of novelty items and essentials for creating root beer floats at home, to make family time even more memorable. To purchase your box, and for float how-to's, recipe inspiration, and to take the Family Fun Night Pledge, visit www.rootbeer.com.
How is your family going to make the most of Family Fun Night this summer?
True, I've seen a few gatherings around fire pits where people actually put down their phones. An hour a week should be easy, but people sure are addicted to their devices. Enjoying summer is grand, except for the bugs, blah. But beats snow and the go go go.
ReplyDeleteThe bugs can take a hike! Other than that, summer is where the party is at. My girls never use their phones around the fire or really on family game night/movie night either. If we keep them talking and entertained, they usually forget they have phones for awhile.
DeleteLook at her using her new son in law as a model :) I'm guessing that is the new son in law?
ReplyDeleteIs that a face on the tree trunk behind them?
What are those blue stones in the fire?
I had to translate s'mores this summer in one of my novels... almost killed myself before deciding how to do it :) We don't have marshmellows here nor a word for it.
Yep, that's Ky. Mariah was getting so ticked at him because "you need to learn how to pose. you suck at posing!" lol
DeleteThat's blue glass in the fire pit. Super expensive but really pretty in person.
Yikes on the translation. That's odd you don't have marshmallows there. How did you end u describing it? I'm curious now!
I translated it as sandwich with biscuits and chocolate LOL
DeleteIt is not as odd as you'd think, maple is more native to your continent than to ours so we don't really use it to make syrup and marshmallows. I'm guessing that is similar to us predominantly using acacia trees for honey, while you use mostly flower one, right?
Yes, we use flowers here for our honey. I should have picked you up a bottle of maple syrup when we were in Canada. It's expensive, but so good!
DeleteSandwich with biscuits and chocolate LOL! That's about right though.
I know a lot of people don't like rootbeer but I do. Looks like you all had a good time.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Going to the root beer stand is one of my all time favorite summertime activities, ever since I was a little girl.
DeleteI never could stand root beer. Daisy loves it though.
ReplyDeleteSo, no root beer floats for you this summer? I'm sure Daisy would love one!
DeleteA&W is one of my favorite soft drinks.....especially in summer
ReplyDeleteYes! It's my families official summertime drink of choice!
DeleteIt is great to have some quality time your friends:)
ReplyDeleteIt most definitely is!
DeleteI love Root Beer so much! It's better than any cola in my book. We spent a lot of time with the Epic Lemonade Stand this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour lemonade stand rocked! I am always blown away by your family's creativity!
DeleteI rarely drink root beer but I love the idea of A&W Family Fun Nights.
ReplyDeleteThat is a smart pledge to make. It's way to easy for the kids (even the grown ones) to get caught up in their devices. Family time, means put it away time, oh and if you have smores and A&W, no one is going to be complaining. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, when it's family time the kids know that they are going to hear it if the phones come out. But, you're right. When there's A&W and smore's, the devices usually stay tucked away without any insistence on our part.
DeleteOh do I love A&W root beer floats! And smores! And fire pits! I'll be in Nova Scotia for family time in a few weeks. Lots of talking, games, and outdoor adventures nonstop for 10 days ~ fire pits every night. I'll remember to bring ice cream and A&W root beer! Thanks for the memories, Theresa!
