Did my American friends all have a nice 4th of July yesterday? We started our day bright and early celebrating with friends and family, and while I had a fabulous day, I think I'm going to need the full weekend to recover from all of that fun and sun! After a rainy and slightly chilly June, July came bursting in bringing the heat with it, and not only do I feel exhausted from our celebrations, I'm also a little on the crispy side from spending too much time out in the sun yesterday. I'll be nursing a sunburn for the next few days, and what better way to lift a scorching spirit than with ice cream? I usually keep a carton of plain vanilla in the freezer, which pairs perfectly with Homemade Chocolate Cherry Sundae Topping, a Golden Blossom Honey recipe.
Chocolate Cherry Sundae Topping is rich, decadent, and surprisingly easier than you think to make. I think the flavors in this topping really stand out in vanilla ice cream, but add it to chocolate ice cream for double the choco love. Minus cooling time, you can have this recipe done in under 10 minutes, and what's better is you can make this ahead of time and keep a batch stored in the fridge for up to a week. I love make ahead recipes, especially in the summertime when I don't want to spend more time at the stove than necessary. My motto this summer: Less stove time, more ice cream time (and chocolate cherry topping too, please!)

What's your favorite ice cream topping?
I do love me cherries on anything! I bought some nasty lemon icecream recently and had to cover it up with bits of biscuits and raspberry chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI'm not an overly huge fan of lemon flavor, but do take exception to it being in loaf cakes and such. I'd have to pass on lemon ice cream though. Oh, but I do love lemon flavored ice slushies and would never say no to one of those.
DeleteThat looks so yum:)
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteSure to help cool you down and make the sunburn not feel so burny, hopefully.
ReplyDeleteIce cream makes everything better :)
Deletegummy bears
ReplyDeleteI love gummy bears!
DeleteHot fudge is my favorite topping.
ReplyDeleteThis should work with ice cream cones too for when we're outdoors. The flavors sound so good!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely would work for ice cream cones!
DeleteFirst you said chocolate, then I saw ice cream and then I want to know how to make the sauce. Never thought about using honey before. Yum. Your recipes look so good.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy :)
DeleteOh yes, I will be making this! We have a lot of ice cream over the summer, so this will be perfect.
ReplyDeleteIce cream is the best part of summer!
DeleteOh Yum! I would love to make this on my own. It probably tastes so much better than store bought. (Rena)
ReplyDeleteI definitely think it's much better than store bought!
DeleteI love homemade chocolate syrup. It's way better than the store bought stuff. I'll have to try this. It looks great. Sometimes I add chocolate syrups on crepes with fruit. In this case I'd add cherries; even though it has a cherry taste already. Nom Nom!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using this sauce over crepes. I had some this morning in a heavy strawberry sauce, but I should have added a little chocolate sauce to the mix too.
DeleteNothing like a good Sundae on the weekends. Reminds me of back in the day where they had the old time ice cream shops. Kids are missing out these days
ReplyDeleteKita
They totally are missing out! Those visits were always the best!
Deletehomemade always fresh...yummy....
ReplyDeleteOh yum, this looks so delicious! Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a wonderful weekend :) It's been a quiet one for us, with the rain!

I love chocolate syrup but honey sounds good too! I am sure that it's a lot healthier than any other toppings out there.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! A homemade chocolate topping?! Yes, please. I can't wait to have a bowl of ice cream with that topping.

My kids love ice cream and we will be making this very soon!
ReplyDeleteThis is making me want to go to my freezer. Yum. Sorry to hear you got a burn!! Hope that feels better soon. Glad you had a happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like delicious dessert . I need to try it in summer chocolate cherry sundae will be great way to cool down.
ReplyDeleteYummy. I love butterscotch or chocolate chips.

I imagine my kids dipping the cherry all day long to that delicious choco LOL.
ReplyDeleteI hope your sunburn is well behind you, Theresa! They are no fun. We had an enjoyable 4th, taking in the movie "Yesterday," having the traditional fixings, and watching fireworks and lightning from our deck. This recipe for Chocolate Cherry Sundae Topping looks delicious. I wish I had had it for the 4th, although caramelized peaches over vanilla ice cream was also delicious. Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is totally on my radar!! Looks so good and delicious, don't want to pass this up!
ReplyDeleteI love nuts with my ice-cream!! Been stocking up on lower cals ice-cream like Enlightened and Ben & Jerry's Moophoria.. wish they weren't so expensive here in Singapore! Have you tried?
ReplyDeleteHappy belated 4th of July!
Ai @ Sakura Haruka
I have tried Enlightened which I love! Their 100 calorie bars are super yum without the guilt. I haven't done Ben & Jerry's simply because they are super expensive here too. Though, I may have to try that Moophoria next time they go on sale :)
