"We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone." -Katie Thurmes

It's no secret that I LOVE snapping photos of things that make me really happy. I am by no means a professional photographer, but that doesn't stop me from whipping out my camera every chance I get to capture moments in time that I want to relive again and again. While I do a lot of food photography as paid work here on the blog, what truly interests me is travel photography. Every time we vacation, in addition to the touristy, family friendly stops we schedule, I also do research of spots in those areas that might have interesting landscapes and buildings for photographing and add them to our itinerary. Y'all remember The Wonderful Barn fiasco from Ireland last year? That was a purely selfish stop on my part just because I wanted photos of an odd looking barn. (In my defense, it didn't detour us from our road trip route.)

We've been pretty fortunate to travel to some amazing places as a family, so naturally I have about a billion photos, give or take, that we like to scroll through every year before embarking on our next vacay. My walls are covered with some of my favorite snaps, while the rest are doomed to a fate of living in my computer photo files until we all have time to sit down and look at them together. In July, as we finished our yearly round of family photo viewing time, my husband casually mentioned that we should get a digital photo frame so we could enjoy our snaps every day. As fate would have it, while we were traveling through the east coast, Nixplay reached out to see if I would be interested in trying their Nixplay Seed Digital Photo Frame. Yes, please!

Nixplay Seed

I'm going to start this by admitting that I am technologically challenged. If it involves electronics, I usually wait until Jason can set it up for me, otherwise I end up as a frustrated, crying mess on the floor within minutes. So, I left the box sitting on my counter for 4 days, eyeing it with suspicion before biting the bullet and attempting to set it up myself. To my delight, I had my Nixplay Seed all set up and running in under 15 minutes. And that's with photos loaded on and ready for viewing! So easy a caveman can do it? Nah, so easy Theresa can do it fits much better here!

Nixplay Seed

What do I think now that I've had a week to sit down and play with it and tweak the settings to my liking? I am absolutely loving it! Let me tell you about the pros and cons:

Pros:

• Easy set up and easy to use
• High-resolution IPS display allows for clear and colorful photos
• Slim Size - 10.20x6.69x.98 inches and weighs only 480g
• 8GB Storage- holds up to 20,000 photos
• Built-in Hu Motion Sensor allows for the frame to go into sleep mode when movement is not detected in the room
• Ability to upload photos from different devices and social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, Google Photos and Dropbox
• Use the Nixplay app to quickly upload your cell phone camera photos directly to the frame
• Easily upload and share new photos with family members who do not live nearby or aren't on social media
• The frame works in both portrait and landscape mode

Con: Only one that I could find and that it is not battery operated. Since it does have to be plugged into an outlet to run, it limits my options on where I can display the frame in my home.

This is how the Nixplay Seed works- Sign up for an account on the Nixplay website. From your settings, you can upload photos directly from your computer, or connect your social media accounts to directly upload photos to your Nixplay frame from those accounts.

The website is pretty straightforward and simple to navigate. You can click Playlists, Albums, or the Social Media tab and within seconds you are ready to load new content to your frame. If you opt to use your phone, it's really just as simple as using the app to upload.

Simply open the app (available for both Apple and Google devices), then click the + sign at the bottom center of your screen. After that, click where you'd like to upload photos from- the photo library, which you'll be able to pull from your camera or social media channels from here, or from your Cloud.

Select which photos you'd like to add, tap done, then boom. Photos start syncing to your frame (as long as it's connected to wi-fi). Easy, peasy! In the settings, there are several options to customize your frame to your liking, such as by shuffling the photos or playing them in the order you uploaded them, the style of how one photo fades into the next, and how long you'd like a photo displayed on the screen before it changes to the next. It also comes with a little remote that you can use to power on the frame, skip or go back, or pause your photos.

The frame is awesome for looking back through your memories, but it's also a great idea to gift to a loved one. Mariah just moved into her first apartment off-campus and gets a little home sick every now and again. She sometimes texts me and asks to send her a photo of the dogs because she's missing them. With the Nixplay Seed, I don't have to text her photos. I can just upload new pics and they'll be sent directly to her frame. How cool is that!?

It's also great for people who aren't on social media. My mother-law- is so old school, she doesn't have a cell phone and refuses to create a Facebook account. I have to email her photos, and since the files are so large, they take forever to download to her server. I'm thinking for Christmas, I'm buying her a Nixplay Seed to save us both a headache when she wants new pictures of her grandbabies!

Overall, I am highly impressed with my Nixplay Seed Digital Frame. It's never too early to start thinking about the holidays, and I think this frame would make a wonderful gift for any photo lover. I did see on their website that the Nixplay Seed 8 inch, 10 inch Ultra and Wave 13 inch widescreen are 25% off until August 25, 2019, so if you're in the market for a digital frame, now's the time to make that purchase.

Who would you gift a Nixplay Seed to, or would you keep it for yourself?

  1. Ooooh the apple dress, the apples dress :)))
Both of those first two photos are gorgeous! I've told you many times you should sell your photos to some of the big photo selling sites!

    1. The apple dress finally got worn after sitting with the tags on it in my closet for 2 years. I only wore it for about 4 hours because it was so damn hot that day and wasn't breathable fabric, so off it came.

I've thought about testing the waters with selling a few photos, but then that pesky thing called self-doubt creeps in and says "reign it in lassy. these are not money worthy." lol Oh well. My family and sometimes when I feel like it, Instagram can enjoy my snaps.

    2. Don't be ridiculous, most of your photos would sell like hot cakes at those big sites!

  2. I used to have a digital frame and I loved it. It lasted a few months and stopped working. I'd love to have a new one. If the came out with one that had a bigger frame, I'd love to have that too!

    1. Oh, I'd be so bummed about a frame only lasting a few months! I'm all for bigger frames as well. I'd lay on my couch and just watch my pictures go by like I was watching a movie lol

  3. I haven't had a digital frame yet

  4. I'm with Dez, I love the apple dress!! You sure that you aren't a professional photographer? I actually have the same frame sitting in my living room right now and love it. The only difference is that mine is filled with silly pictures, some of which make me cringe. It's time to do a photo refresh on mine.

    1. Isn't that dress cute? Might look better on someone younger and with the chest to actually fill it out properly, but when in The Big Apple, dress the part, right?

Isn't the frame such a nice touch to home decor. My eyes keep drifting to mine, then I spend so much time enjoying seeing those fun vacation memories played out over and over again. Nothing wrong with silly photos! I think the silly ones are some of the best ones sometimes!

  5. Fun! I think a lot of photography is just knowing how to crop in on photos, the colors and the lighting. I love the dress you are wearing! So cute!

    1. You're right. It's all about the angles and lighting! I admit, a lot my photos are about the editing because I just don't know what the heck I'm doing most of the time lol. I'll pass the dress on down to Allison as soon as she can fit into it. She wanted it more than I did when we were at Disney, but it was only available in my size then, so she left with the promise that it would be hers one day.

  9. haha yeah, fits better than the caveman one. Great that it is easy to use and does the trick. They are so much better in displaying more photos. Sometimes the size can be a hindrance as the one my grandmother has only has so much room. You? Not a professional photographer? Well you're as close as you get then.

    1. Yeah, it's not worth the frame if you can't fit that many photos on it. I like that I've already loaded a ton onto my frame and still have lots and lots of room left.

  10. That sounds so neat to display photos. I would keep it for myself because I've never had one before.

  11. This is cool! Now that my parents are leaving miles away, I want to have a digital frame. I will fill it with my parents and nieces' photo.

  12. Well those are some awesome looking photos for someone who claims they are not that great at it. I have so many photos, that noone sees. I need this.

  13. I love the idea of a digital frame so that I can constantly update my photos. I take so many photos and they stay hidden in my phone usually. Unless I post them to instagram or facebook. I'll have to tell Santa to send me one. :)

  14. This would be perfect for my mother-in-law. She has so many relatives that she can't even put photos up of all of them. (She has 30 grandkids and a lot of them have started families now.) A digital frame would give her back some wall space.

  15. Digital Frames are awesome! I love that you can change up the pictures!

  16. It's nice to know that somebody else likes to take photos as much as me! And yours are awesome, Theresa. This product sounds awesome, and I love the idea of Easy Peasy set up.
