Staying active is important to my family. Staying hydrated is really important to us, too. We're always on the go, and I'm just going to admit that while I try to be an Eco-warrior, sometimes I fall a little flat and grab plastic bottles of water for our on-the-go adventures as I'm headed out of the door. That's something that bothers me, especially since I know that 2,000 plastic bottles are used every second in the U.S. and 70% of them are not even recycled. While we all deserve cleaner, great-tasting water, we shouldn't have to trash the planet to get it. That's why I'm doing my part and am making the Swap for Sustainability.
I have just purchased a Brita Filtering Bottle for everyone in my house, so whether we're at home or on-the-go, we have a better alternative for reducing waste and living a more sustainable life.
The 20 ounce Brita Filtering Bottle filters water as you drink through the straw, so you can enjoy great-tasting water anytime, anywhere without waste.
The Brita Filtering Bottle offers a unique stainless steel design that features double wall insulation to keep water cold for up to 24 hours, so my family can enjoy crisp, refreshing water at home or while out enjoying the great outdoors.
As a mom, it makes me happy to see our youth taking a more proactive approach to cleaning up our environment, and my daughter is no exception. She was really excited to get her hands on her new Brita Filtering Bottle and couldn't wait to fill it up, then head out for a walk in the park. Our park does offer plenty of water fountains, but if I'm being honest, the water is less than tasty. However, the Brita Filtering Bottle comes with a replaceable filter that reduces chlorine taste and odor, leaving the fountain water tasting just as refreshing as bottled, but without the waste.
I like taking my Brita Filtering Bottle to the dog park too.
The attached handle makes it easy for me to hold the bottle with ease in one hand, while holding the dog's leashes in the other. When you have two rambunctious dogs to control, you really appreciate the little things in life like this that much more.
The Brita Filtering Bottle has quickly become a staple in our outdoor adventures, workout session, the office, and both girls keep theirs tucked into their backpacks for a quick refresher at school.
It makes my heart happy to know that my family has all jumped on board and are as excited about our Swap for Sustainability. Since the Brita Filtering Bottle can replace up to 1,800 water bottles a year, it's really helping my family do its part to live a more Eco-friendly, sustainable lifestyle.
If you're looking to reduce your single-use plastic consumption, I highly recommend making the Swap for Sustainability by grabbing a your own Brita Filtering Bottle. You can find it in an assortment of fun colors HERE.
What kind of sustainable swaps has your family made?
I do like that! I hate that my work doesn't have filtered water. I actually have a 1/2 gallon jug that I fill up to take in. A co-worker used to make fun of me for it. I just told him that I take it for diet reasons - I have to drink that much a day. He was ok with that. This would be perfect, for work. Isaak has to have a clear water bottle at school, so it wouldn't work for him. It would work for sports though. Mica has to drink out of a drinking fountain. Too many kids were trying to sneak other things in.
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't have to explain to anyone why you take in your own water. I hate the taste of unfiltered water, especially when we go places like theme parks and such. I end up buying water there just to avoid the icky tasting fountain water.
DeleteThankfully, they haven't insisted on clear bottles at the school yet, so the girls can take in any bottle color they want.
After going to their page through your instagram link, I see they do have clear bottles. I'm still unsure if I want to get this brand for the boys. Mica had one kid throw his bottle two years ago. It grazed his head. The boy was angry at another kid. I guess I was just happy Mica was ok, but the bottle was broke. Then Mica lost his next one. Then Mica dropped another one I gave him. I'm all for cheaper bottles for those sons of mine!
DeleteYikes! Yes, one of these bottles would really hurt if you were to get konked in the head with it. I'm all for the less expensive bottles for the younger kids as they do tend to lose or break them often. Thankfully, Allison and Mariah are at that age where we can trust they'll take care of what we give them to use now. 3 years ago, I would have said, No Way!
DeleteSide note: On my Mom's side, my Great Grandmother was from Sweden. Her name was Brita. I love that for a name. I'm not sure if it was Brita or Britta. Either way it's pretty.
ReplyDeleteI like that name too. That's what you named your Elf on the Shelf, right?
DeleteYep that's what we named that silly Elf.
DeleteSustainable Swaps: Cloth snack and sandwich bags, I also have medical grade silicone (bigger bags).
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea to save the environment. It also seems more economical than purchasing a 50 pack of water bottles each week. Where does it filter too and where does the "filtered" junk go to when you're done?
ReplyDeleteI agree. We spend so much on bottled water each week, it's ridiculous. There's a small replaceable filter in the straw, which replaces up to 300 single-use plastic water bottles. Better for the wallet and environment all together.
DeleteSounds very practical!
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous couple you and Jason are in that photo! And beautiful outfit on you! I wore the very same one LOL this summer, white shorts, and white navy striped t-shirt!
I love the nautical look! White and navy is such a lovely combo.
DeleteI try to recycle all my bottles when I use them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a winner indeed. Can save quite a bit of money not buying water too. The pup is looking on back for the photo shoot. Glory hound or more of a "are you coming already?" look? lol
ReplyDeleteShe was like "Stop taking photos and let's get this walk started!" She's an impatient one!
DeleteCute photos, Theresa! I was interested to learn about the double wall insulation to keep the water cold. I laugh every time I think of Terry showing up at pickleball in Surprise, Arizona with a metal water bottle. Someone saw it and commented, "You're not from around here, are you?" Terry learned very quickly not to use a metal water bottle there. But this might work! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are taking steps to help get rid of the plastic water bottle problem. We use caps at my school to turn in for recycling, but I sometimes wonder if that makes people buy more bottles to try and meet the goal for the bench. It's awesome that the Brita bottle keeps water cold for up to 24 hours!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I get a new water bottle every couple of months. I tend to replace them often because they either break, leak or just don't stand up well.
ReplyDeleteI love all those environmental - friendly water bottles and tumblers. It feels good to think that we are actually doing something for the earth. I love the sleek design of this Brita bottle
