Today's recipe is all about "wtf can I make from my pantry without having to go to the grocery store". Right now, I am trying to send Jason to the grocers as little as possible, so this week's meals have been inspired by pantry staples that we almost always have on hand, pandemic or not. Pasta is life for me, and I usually have a large assortment in my pantry which allowed me to try out this scrumptious Ziti with Havarti and Olives recipe from Golden Blossom Honey without having to leave the house for any extra ingredients.
Like I said, most of these ingredients you should already have on hand, so no unnecessary grocery trips should be in order to pull off this meal. I actually didn't have a block of Havarti, but I did have it in slices, which I just tore into bite sized pieces before mixing it all together. If you don't have Havarti in your fridge, you can easily substitute with Italian or Mozzarella shreds and still have a fantastic dish. Serve it along some crusty French bread for a comforting and delicious dinner.
Ingredients
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, peeled and halved
3 (28 ounce) cans Italian tomatoes, drained and chopped
2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 bay leaves
2 teaspoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
salt and pepper to taste
Pasta:
1 pound ziti or penne, cooked al dente
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups Havarti cheese, grated
1/3 cup Kalamata olives, pitted and halved
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

What do you always have stocked in your pantry?
Not sure what's always there besides the obvious basics.
ReplyDeleteThat's all you really need to pull off a decent meal though :)
DeleteNot having to go to the grocery store much is sure a win. Goes to show you can get creative and use what is in the pantry most times indeed.
ReplyDeleteWith the right spices and a few dry goods, anything is possible!
DeleteWhat a magnificent fresh set of colours, the setting is so elegant and so very much alive and delicious, this would be a photo for the cover of the books, it truly escapes me why you are already not in the business of a professional food photographer.
ReplyDeleteBecause I still don't think I know what the hell I'm doing. I just wing it every week and hope for the best. I don't think professionals do that LOL!
DeleteI just love ziti! I'd just have to make it without olives. I've never cared for them. But ziti? Yes please!
ReplyDeleteThat’s what’s so fun about most recipes. They can be customized to your own tastes :)
DeleteOh now this sounds good - right now I could definitely do with some ideas for things to make from those items you always have around the home as I just look in the cupboard and think what do I do now?!
ReplyDeleteThis does look yummy.. but I'm not too sure about olives in sauce. Did it go well? Maybe I just feel that way because I don't like olives any way. Our pantry is always stocked with pounds of rice and cans of beans. We eat rice and beans really often, especially in the summer time.
ReplyDeleteI do love olives, so it worked for me. I always get them on my pizza, but the kids pick them off because they don't like them. We eat a lot of beans and rice too!
DeleteThis looks delicious! Sadly, we already ate our penne, but when we get more, I'll have to make this!
ReplyDeleteHoney in ziti?! I would never have thought. I can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteYum, I should make something similar!
ReplyDeleteI never thought honey could come good with tomato based pasta. Would love to try that!
ReplyDeleteZiti and honey are staples you always find in our house. Looking forward to making this!
ReplyDeleteYum! We love pasta over here. Too bad I don't have all the needed ingredients right now. But I'll save your recipe for later. -LYNNDEE
ReplyDeleteI love these flavors. In fact, I am in the process of developing a recipe with these plus orange. I might do a white sauce instead. This looks incredible.
ReplyDeleteI would love to make this. It would certainly fill all of the bellies up!
ReplyDeleteThis certainly does look good. Comfort food, true. And nope, we don't want to leave home unless we absolutely have to here either.
ReplyDeleteWe always have pasta stocked in our pantry too. We also keep peanut butter, jalepenos and nuts of some kind in there. We don't use those things together... ;)
That would certainly be an interesting food combo if you did though LOL!
DeleteThat pasta looks delicious I love the idea of adding some honey to the recipe.
ReplyDeleteI love pasta and I am always looking for new ideas! I will definitely try your recipe!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious! We are vegetarian and this recipe sounds so good. I love pasta, and olives, and I think this is a great combination.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so good.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made pasta for a long time. COVID-19 came, and I've made it twice. I had 2 boxes around that needed to be used up. This looks good!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to make $200 stops at the grocery store, instead of $70-$100. Yes a lot less frequent. I did get in a tif with my other 1/2...he went to the store for a fancy meal for us. He got nothing else. I was like umm...no! Then all the sudden he thought I wasn't happy with the meal. I just want us safe!
Oh my...I miss good homy pasta! We usually cook it when my kids are craving for one hehehe. I always enjoy olives indeed. At home right now I stock up on many fresh fruits and veggie, plus eggs
ReplyDeleteSame here. We're not going to market as much and when we do go, only one of us goes at one time. Love the picture of your food. Well done and Happy Cooking. Cheers and boogie boogie, Ivy.
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious, Theresa. I'm trying to go to the grocery store once every two weeks, especially with Covid-19 cases increasing quickly in Colorado. Both Terry and I are older, and I have asthma and am allergic to almost all antibiotics, so we're being careful. I could manage this with a few substitutions. Take care!
