I decided that we're going to have a little Labor Day cookout this year with the in-laws. It makes me sad that we haven't had one big summer gathering with the extended family this year, and if you've been here awhile, you know that we will use any holiday as an excuse to get together for a big family meal. I just couldn't let the last holiday of summer slip by without having the parents over, so we've got something small planned for next weekend, weather permitting. Since we're keeping it small, kebabs are going to be on the menu. Kebabs aren't something I usually serve when we have the whole family over since they take way too long to skewer up for many people, but since this is an intimate gathering, I thought I'd make these Grilled Sausage and Shrimp Kebabs, a Golden Blossom Honey recipe, for our planned meal.

We do love a good kebab and these do not disappoint. The hubby liked the extra kick of spice that the red pepper in the marinade lent to this recipe but it wasn't overly hot as the sweet honey tones it down a bit. If you're just doing a little shindig with a small group, these are perfect for popping on the menu.

Ingredients

Marinade:
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Kebab:
8 bamboo skewers
16 large shrimp, peeled and de-veined
20 medium size white button mushrooms
3/4 pound andouille sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces
20 cherry tomatoes
1 large green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch chunks

  2. What a gorgeous wooden dish! I've seen a long white ceramic curvy similar one at the Chinese shop yesterday, perfect for nuts and mini tomatoes. Hope you will get weather the same as us this weekend, we will have the last scorching weekend with temps close to 40*C and then it will drop massively next week with the start of school.

    1. I can't remember when I picked that dish up. A yard sale or thrift store probably. Our temps are about to drastically drop as well next week. It's about time to pull out the sweatshirts and boots once again. I'll be heading to the nursery to pick up my annual purchase of mums probably this weekend or next.

  3. We have always hosted every holiday since we moved into this house 8 years ago. It’s been sad to not have our usual shindigs for Memorial Day, July 4th and now Labor Day. My son and his wife were supposed to be having their wedding reception tomorrow, so I’m bummed about that. Unsure what we are doing next weekend, but I know my oldest daughter is having us over for our grandson’s 3rd birthday.

    1. This year has really put a damper on family time. And super boo to not getting a wedding reception. I went to one outdoor wedding this year, but skipped the indoor reception. It was just too risky, even with the scaled back guest list. But hurray for birthday gatherings! You definitely can't miss your grandson's 3rd birthday!

  5. These look scrumptious, Theresa, and your photos are wonderful! Your comment about skewering kebabs made me laugh. My Aunt Mary Lou (really an older cousin) used to round my cousins and me up year after year to help her skewer hundreds of scallop kebabs for a barbecue fundraiser for the yacht club and local museums in Digby and Smith's Cove, Nova Scotia. And if they ran out of kebabs for the fundraiser dinner, we didn't get to have any. LOL Now that they have a catered dinner, I kind of miss the skewering fun. A big glass of wine helps! I'm glad to hear that you're getting together with your parents and family. I'll be FaceTiming mine over the long weekend. Have fun!

    1. Man, I'd be bummed to watch everyone eat all the kebabs and not get any after working hard to skewer that many up! But I'm glad you can laugh about it! Hope your FaceTime with the family was a lovely one ♥

  8. These look so yummy!! We did chicken kebabs last week that came out so dry and gross that they got turned into chicken salad. Our labor day plans don't exist yet, but maybe I'll invite my family over for some kebabs. LOL I'm feeling inspired.

  9. Golden shrimp grilled sausage, a perfect dish to celebrate Labor Day with your in-laws.
I also often order honey prawns when I am at a chinnesse restaurant.

I will give this special recipe to my mom to cook it.
    Have a nice week, Theresa

    1. I have never tried honey prawns, as I don't eat seafood, but that sounds like something my husband would gobble right up!
