I'm not going to knock Pinterest because it's my favorite social media platform, but I sometimes think that when we get sucked down the rabbit hole of all the amazing recipes we can find on there, we often forget about how good simple, classic recipes can be. My favorite cookbook is the one passed down to me from my grandmother, the one she used in her home economics class when she was in high school in the 40's. Reading through it, most of the recipes have very few ingredients that we all have stocked in our kitchens today, and the beauty of it is nobody ever complained about grandma's cooking. There's just something to be said for old school recipes that can stand the test of time. We had talked about making a pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving, but honestly I think sticking with a classic pumpkin pie is the way to go after the crazy year we've had. No need to steer away from the traditional pie and complicate things. Normalcy is something I think we're all craving right about now. So, I've decided that this is the year I'm going to put this Old Fashion Pumpkin Pie recipe from Golden Blossom Honey on the menu to keep things sweet and simple.
You can make your own pie crust for this recipe, but I opted to just get the 2 pack of pie crusts from the freezer case at my grocers to cut down on prep work. If you select the deep dish pie crust, you'll get one big pie out of it, but I went with the regular sized crusts and was able to have enough filling for 2 pies. Which is never a bad thing because pumpkin pie goes fast around here at Thanksgiving. Sometimes I think 2 pies isn't even enough to feed my brood. This recipe has minimal ingredients and is as simple as mixing, pouring and baking. It really doesn't get any easier than that.
Ingredients
Filling:1 (15 ounce) can pure pumpkin (not pie filling)
1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 (9 or 10-inch) unbaked piecrust

What pies will be on your Thanksgiving menu this year?
Oh wow, that looks so pretty! I love the color! Have a lovely weekend ☺
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear! You too :)
DeleteOooh so gorgeous and beautiful! Although the OCD maniac in me does wish you'd turned the pointed sides of the slices towards the motherpie LOL but such gorgeous colours, bet it was delish.
ReplyDeleteJust trying to keep you on your toes with your OCD LOL.
DeleteI just love pumpkin pie! I always make one pumpkin and one sour cherry pie. My son’s birthday is always on Thanksgiving weekend,so I make him a cake, too.
ReplyDeleteYou’re like us around Christmas with the sweets. Our birthdays are the week of Christmas here, so it’s dessert overload all the end of December
DeleteQue bien que te ha quedado :-)))
ReplyDeleteThanks Miju!
DeleteEvery year for Thanksgiving I make a pumpkin pie. This year I'll try your recipe. I'm guilty of just using the recipe on the back of the Libby's can. Costco has a pumpkin pie that's dairy free. I want to know what they use instead of evaporated milk. One year I tried almond milk, and it went right in the garbage.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just have to use regular milk in your recipes or it turns out awful. Made the mistake of using almond in a few of my recipes and it was a disaster!
DeleteYeah, sometimes there is something to be said for less is more in darn near anything. You sure rack in the pinterest views too. Mine was going up til they changed the stupid algorithm or something. Same with Instagram. They keep changing crap. Pffft.
ReplyDeleteMine are only high right now because of my Halloween posts. Come January, I’ll be under 100k again.
DeleteI agree, and I was just thinking about this too!! Everyone loved to go to my grandma's house for dinner, and she didn't make anything fancy, but she did make everything from scratch!! This pie is perfect for the holiday this year!
ReplyDeleteGrandma really knew best when it came to home cooking. I wish we never strayed from that and Sunday family dinner :(
DeleteOh my goodness I bought pie crust, baked a pumpkin, and puree'd it. Mica had to make a pie. I set out all the ingredients for him. Well he made it, stirred it, but didn't whisk it. It had full egg yolks in it. Anyhow it was all my fault - apparently - that his pie was messed up. Ha!
ReplyDeleteLol! Sounds like something Allison would do and blame me for it too!
