Merry Christmas to you all! Since most of you are probably spending the day with your family celebrating the holiday, I'm keeping this short and sweet today with these Honey Fig Bars, a Golden Blossom Honey recipe. And just because the holiday is about over with, it doesn't mean that you still can't make and enjoy these little treats this season. If you have any figs left over, this is a great way to use them up. They'll even be great for your New Year's Eve dessert!
I want to note that I did double the crust recipe. When smoothing the first half of the dough over the bottom of my pan, I had a few issues getting it to fully cover the pan, so I ended up using the full first batch of dough, then went on to make another batch to cover the top. The crust does puff up quite a bit while baking, so if you aren't into a lot of crust, this recipe is good as is. I am sure any holes left on the bottom of the pan will fill as the dough rises in the oven. I personally love crust, so doubling the recipe worked in my favor. I did use Silver Blossom Honey in this recipe because the orange notes compliment the sweetness of the figs deliciously. Regular Golden Blossom would be scrumptious too, just use what you have on hand and it will be yum either way!
Ingredients
Dough:6 tablespoons butter, softened
1/3 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

2 cups dried figs
1 tablespoon orange zest
