Anyone watching the game this Sunday? We usually tune in just for the commercials, but the previews that I have seen that have already leaked don't even look that great, so we'll probably skip it altogether. But, that doesn't mean that we can't stay in and gorge ourselves on game day food anyway. We've always done hot wings (cauliflower wings for the vegetarians) and Italian beef sandwiches, but since we won't be having any gatherings this year, I thought I'd change the menu and swap out the Italian beef for these Honey Mustard Burgers, a Golden Blossom Honey recipe, instead.
I know it's supposed to be super cold in many areas of the US this weekend, but if you're brave enough to fire up the grill, these will be a tasty addition to you game day spread. If you prefer to stay indoors, they will cook up just fine over a cast iron skillet. You could even roll and press the meat into smaller portions for making sliders. If you're not a meat eater, the sauce is still a great recipe to keep on hand. I've used it many times on my quinoa and black bean burgers when I'm just not feeling the normal ketchup and mustard combination. Add on your favorite toppings and you've got a game winning recipe on your hands!
Ingredients
1/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY MUSTARD1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 pound lean ground beef
4 teaspoons onion, diced
salt and pepper to taste
4 lettuce leaves
4 crusty rolls, toasted

Are you watching the game this Sunday?
I just can’t watch football. It’s super boring to me. My husband will watch till he falls asleep!
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's so boring to me as well! We live right by Notre Dame, but I've never been to a game. However, I do like to go tailgate on campus!
DeleteMy fave in that photo are pretzels and chips LOL Such fun that you have a special football ball butter knife for this occasion LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd football bowls and plates too. We used to host Super Bowl at my house every year, but haven't for the past 3 years or so, so the dishes sit and collect dust all year.
DeleteOMG I haven't even noticed that the bowls are also pigskin LOL Positively delightful! Do you also have fish plates for serving fish?
DeleteProbably not watching the game, I don’t care about either team
ReplyDeleteBut what about the commercials and half time show? Though I heard half time was dreadful this year, so maybe best you sat it out?
DeleteOh so delicious darling
ReplyDeletexx
These look really good as do those gigantic pretzels (and I don't even like pretzels unless their dipped in chocolate). We won't be watching the game as I haven't watched football in a few years. When Aaron Hernandez left the Patriots and became a known criminal, I stopped watching. You didn't follow my blog then, but I was a HUGE Aaron Hernandez fan and a big time Patriots fan.
ReplyDeleteOoof! It sucks when you're let down by someone you thought was worthy of following.
DeleteI agree, pretzels in chocolate are life. White chocolate more so, but I'll eat them any way they come.
Yum.
ReplyDeleteTotes!
DeleteWe're not even going to watch the Superbowl. Which is something I would have never thought I would say for most of the years of my adult life. :) The burgers look good. My kids would all like those!!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't watched it in several years. We used to host the party at our house every year, but after dealing with the holidays, it just felt like too much too soon having everyone over for another gathering.
DeleteHoney mustard burgers! Yum!
ReplyDeleteYum, honey and mustard is a great combo!
ReplyDeleteIt really is!
DeleteSure looks like a winner to gorge on. As for football, can't watch it. Sooo boring.
ReplyDeleteSoooo boring, indeed!
DeleteThey do look wonderful. It’s been awhile since we’ve had burgers, and I love them.
ReplyDeleteWe make them a lot in the summer, but I don't like standing at the grill when it's this cold out. I hate how the grease splatters on the stove if we make them indoors, so we don't have them frequently this time of year either.
