Oregon's Wishing Tree

Just close your eyes and make a wish....

Here's the thing you should know if you ever want to travel with me. I am going to stop at every quirky or unique place that I can find. World's largest ball of yarn? Yep. Detour to see Jesus in a potato chip? Totally. Piss off my family trying to find an odd shaped barn in Ireland? You already know! So, when Allison brought up adding a stop to The Wishing Tree once we hit Portland, I was all in.

I had never heard of The Wishing Tree before, but once I looked up a few pictures, I knew it was one of those stops that wasn't going to take up a lot of time, but it was going to be one that we'd never forget visiting.

The Wishing Tree started in 2013 when the owner tied a few wishes to the tree before leaving on a trip. When she returned, the tree was covered in other wishes. The idea grew from there, with the owner adding a clipboard with instructions to leave a wish for yourself or loved ones. Since then, the tree has never been bare of wishes, and has even been the inspiration for other wishing trees to pop up in the area.

There were plenty of tags and sharpies available, so Allison and I each made a wish.

Did the tree grant our wishes? It's a toss up. I wished happiness and good health for my loved ones for the year, but less than a month later we were going into lock down because Covid19 was just starting to rear its ugly head. BUT, my family is still in tact with no Covid casualties, so maybe wishes at the Wishing Tree do come true.

If you're ever in Portland, make sure you stop and add your wish to the tree. You can find it on the corner of Northeast Morris Street and 7th Ave.

Love, Money, Health. Fame.... what kind of wish would you tie to The Wishing Tree?

    1. Yes, it was cold and rainy in Oregon and Washington when we were there. But we did go in January when Indiana was getting hammered with snow storms, so I welcomed the rain.

  2. Health, for sure! It’s been one thing after another the last few years.

I haven’t heard of the wishing tree, but I hope it’s better for the environment than those love locks on bridges! My son and DIL were in Portland for 10 days in July. They had a blast! I hope to go there some day soon.

    1. I'm sorry to hear that! I will send a wish out into the universe on your behalf for wellness for you and your loved ones.
Portland is lovely. Actually, the whole of Oregon is probably the most beautiful state in the country, imo. I really hope you get out that way to explore some day. I think you will love it!

  9. I am with you with the quirky stops during travels! They get me more excited than traditional vacations like lounging on the beach with a cocktail. What a cute idea! Although, I must admit, the owner must be a saint because I’d NEVER let that happen in front of my home. Great wish, and I think it did come true!
