Can we talk about hotel continental breakfasts for a second? And I really mean for a second because now that I'm back on the road every weekend, I find that most, if not all hotel breakfasts suck. I used to pick my hotels based on if I'd be able to grab a quick bite before we left for the day, but since Covid, those breakfasts are either terribly bland or simply no longer exist. I've started packing my own electric tea kettle when I travel and I'm starting to think I need to take a portable blender as well so I can have a smoothie to fill my tummy in the mornings instead of crummy muffins or dry toast. I've been a fan of Golden Blossom Honey's Pineapple Orange Shake recipe for a few years now and think that I could make it for breakfast on travel days, even with the scarce offerings that the hotel provides.
What I like about this recipe is that most of the ingredients are ones that you will find at many hotels that offer a continental breakfast, with the exception of canned pineapple chunks and my favorite Golden Blossom Raw Honey. But that's simple enough to pack, since I'm already bringing my own tea. You can easily grab the other ingredients from the breakfast area and if you bring a portable blender, you can make a nutritious and delicious breakfast in your room. Or, if you're not traveling like I am, this is still an amazing recipe for an at-home breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a post workout pick-me-up, not to mention we're less than 3 months from warm to hot temperatures, this will be a shake you'll want to return to again and again until autumn.
1 cup orange juice
2 cups canned pineapple chunks, drained
1 banana
1/4 cup whole, skim or soy milk
2 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM RAW HONEY
4 ice cubes

How do you breakfast while traveling?
Pineapple and orange are the perfect partners. And yes, those hotel breakfasts are terrible UNLESS you are willing to pay fiftyhundredabillion dollars for a hot breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which we usually are not... :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice combo indeed!
ReplyDeleteI usually do not eat at all when I'm out of town, just some wholemeal biscuits and I even try not to drink water, which ain't good, but I'm afraid of having to pee while in a bus.
Well, I try to stay at a B&B that offers a real breakfast! But that’s only happening in places like Napa! I knew as soon as the pandemic hit that hotels would stop offering the ‘free’ breakfast and never bring it back. AND not lower their rates to reflect that loss. Rip off!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're traveling every weekend!? That's great and I hope is a sign of success for you! Have you ever had a Dunkin Donut's Wake up Wrap? LOL There's my traveling breakfast.
ReplyDeleteGracias por la receta, se ve muy rico y refrescante. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteI usually get drive thru breakfast

I don't travel so don't need breakfast haha I found hotel breakfasts bland before the pandemic though. Sounds like a great way to start the morning.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I don't make a lot of shakes at home - but maybe that should change! This sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteYummy! I would make this. I make protein balls if we're traveling.
