So, in addition to all of the other things we're out of lately in this country, is rhubarb on the list of shortages? Because I really wanted to make a rhubarb pie to share with you guys this week, but I can't find it anywhere. I thought it was in season until August? I saw it at the Farmer's Market a couple of weeks back and passed on it because I wasn't wanting to buy it earlier than I needed it, and then ended up kicking myself after leaving not one but four stores defeated this week. So, instead of the really yummy pie recipe I was going to make, I thought I'd move on to plan B and share these Peppered Steaks for this week's Golden Blossom Honey feature.
I know many of you will be firing up your grills this weekend in celebration of Independence Day, so if you're looking for a new recipe, you've come to the right place. We just hosted Allison's graduation last weekend at our house, so we're not planning anything special for the 4th of July holiday, but Jason did recently buy some strip steaks that I thought I'd experiment with. Had we made plans for a holiday cookout, these peppered steaks definitely would have been on the menu. Get them prepped and marinated a day ahead of time, then day of party all you have to do is toss them on the grill. You all know how much I love easy, no fuss recipes when it comes to party planning and this one is definitely going to the top of the list for our next gathering. Grab you some summer fruits and veggies to serve along with these steaks and you'll have a meal worthy of firework celebrations in itself. Just don't look for rhubarb. Because you'll almost feel like the USA doesn't deserve a birthday this year once you realize you can't find it anywhere either LOL.
Ingredients
3/4 cup olive oil1/3 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
4 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 cup scallions, chopped
4 garlic cloves, chopped
2 tablespoons coarsely ground pepper
1 teaspoon dried thyme, crumbled
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon salt
4 small strip steaks (3/4 inch thick)
If
you like this recipe, be sure to come back every Friday, where I
feature a new recipe from Golden Blossom Honey, and be sure to Pin It on Pinterest!
Are you finding there are shortages on things you normally buy as well?
We have shortages of everything, mostly sugar and oil, and everything is double or thriple the price it was. It is so hot here currently that I don't think anyone will be grilling anything. We are under a heat wave from Sahara and it will be over 40^C for ten days or so, it does not go lower than 25^C even at night. It is currently 30^C in my freaking house. Even my cats look like they want to drown themselves in a bucket of water. If this is how the whole summer will look like I might hang myself on the first tree to end the suffering LOL
ReplyDeleteOof, it sounds miserable there! It was only deadly hot here for like two weeks, but it has cooled considerably. Today we have strong summer thunderstorms. I hope it does not knock out the power because the house will get really hot then, even if it's not too hot outside. The rain will bring the mosquitoes from hell too, I'm sure. Can we just fast forward to fall already?
DeleteI did see rhubarb yesterday at a farm market, but that was first time this year. Red pears have suddenly disappeared here, right after me discovering them! I swear, every week now there’s an item or two I can’t buy. Last week, there were no petite baby carrots. And lemon hummus seems to have vanished for a month now.
ReplyDeleteIt's just ridiculous that we have to grab things as soon as we see them anymore. Thank God I don't have babies on formula with that shortage going on. My niece was in a panic because she couldn't find any for her son, but thankfully and angel on Facebook had a few cans she gifted to her. Times are definitely tough lately.
DeleteThis looks delicious! I'm not a big meat eater, but I do enjoy a rare steak. Believe it or not, the only shortage that I've really noticed is coffee! Although, it worked to our advantage. We had to change brands and it turns out that I like it way better.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a coffee drinker so I didn't realize there was a shortage on that too, but I'm glad it worked in your favor. I love happy circumstances like that!
DeleteThose look really good. I might have to talk my hubby into making some one weekend.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can get him on board with it!
DeleteMy grandma used to make a rhubarb pie once a year. I couldn't find my little Halo oranges the last two times I looked for them. I purchased big oranges instead but they were nowhere near as juicy and sweet. I hope it's a fluke and my Halos are back in stock soon. Your steak is perfect for the 4th!! And hurrah for the graduation celebration. I hope it was everything she wanted and more. Big congrats to her. And bam! Just like that, your babies are all grown up. :)
ReplyDeleteSure looks like a winner. I used to like steak before my body told me no way haha I know the feeling with looking. 4 darn stores for the only cat food they'll eat and finally found one whole tiny bag. Apparently it is out of stock and not sure when it will return. Fun times!
ReplyDeleteQue rica carne , gracias por la receta. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThese steaks look yummy! it's a shame that you couldn't make the pie you wanted but hopefully you find some rhubarb soon!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good weekend :)
Steak is what we're having today for dinner.
ReplyDeleteYay.
