"Did you see that Erin is now making Tik Tok lunches?" This is a question Allison asked me last week. Um, what the heck is a Tik Tok lunch!? While I realize that's a popular social platform, it's not one that I've ever gotten into, not for lack of my daughter telling me every day that I need to be on there. If you're old like me, or just out of the loop (like me again), Tik Tok lunches are basically what we called bento boxes like 10 years ago. Just fancy little finger foods for parents that want to go the extra mile while packing their kid's lunches for school each day. Erin, I love you, but you're exhausting me with your fancy sandwiches, cucumber rolls, and fruit salads. On top of that, now my kids know that I was the lazy mom who took the easy way out and just tossed a Lunchable, granola bar, and a piece of fruit into their lunch box and called it good. Thanks for exposing me like that. I owe you one. If you're a lazy parent like me with the lunches, that's okay. We're all out here just doing our best. If you're the parent that wants to go the extra mile with the fancy packed lunches, that's all good too! There are a lot of fun ideas on Pinterest and apparently Tik Tok to keep you inspired, but let me stick to my old school roots today and blog about a fun little finger food to pop into the lunchbox this year. Apples and Brie, a Golden Blossom Honey recipe, is a simple snack, yet delicious and fancy enough to brag about on social media.
Just 3 ingredients are all you need for this lunchbox treat. I used a variety of apples while making these yesterday, from Honey Crisp, Cortland, Granny Smith and Gala, I have to say that my personal favorite was the brie paired with the Granny Smith. I liked the contrast of the tart and sour flavors in that apple variety mingled with the warmth and richness of the brie. The recipe does call for the removal of the skin on the apples, but I like to keep them in tact since they are much more nutritious that way. I just give them a quick vinegar and water bath first to eliminate any bacteria. But it's okay to remove them as well. Whatever your preference is works here. I also topped my slices with sprigs of dill for an extra fancy touch. Take that, Tik Tok. I got this! Though Allison discarded her dill. So maybe I don't LOL.
If
you like this recipe, be sure to come back every Friday, where I
feature a new recipe from Golden Blossom Honey, and be sure to Pin It on Pinterest!
Do your kids pack a lunch or buy a school lunch?
I don't do Tik Tok either. The kids all do (even the oldest). I have Snap Chat but only to see videos of the grandkids. My second oldest and my daughter use it quite a bit so I get grandbaby delight from that app. :) My youngest likes to sneak in and change my avatar to look atrocious, so I'm glad no one is on my Snap except my kids, lolol. Speaking of which, I think when he is getting ready for school today, I'm going to go hack his Avatar, mwuahahahha. The apples and brie look delicious, and I'd keep the skin on too! Have a happy day.
ReplyDeleteThis is not something I would eat LOL Is TikTok monetable like YouTube?
ReplyDeleteLol, I just discovered Bento Boxes a few years ago! My kids picked out what days they wanted to buy on the school lunch calendar for elementary school. By middle school, my oldest and youngest bought everyday, probably because it was the cool thing to do. I cringe thinking all the pizza they probably ate from the a la carte line. Middle Child only packed by that age because she was too intimidated by the lunch line, which is sad, but she didn’t mind.
ReplyDeleteMy stepdaughter usually eats school lunch except meatloaf day 🍖
ReplyDeleteGracias por la receta se ve muy rico- Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteI would use a different cheese since I don't like brie.
ReplyDeletelol well I never knew what any of them was. Bento boxes or tik tok lunch thingys. So I'm super out of the loop. I'd keep it that way over joining that thing though. Bah, she just picked a little off, you still win haha
ReplyDeleteLooks good for the lunch. Formerly "Bento boxes" -here we call it "Sefer Tasi"- are so popular here. But i havent used it. Also I dont use Tik-tok so far and i think i am old too ☺.
ReplyDeleteI don't have TikTok, but I'm all for this!! Healthy and delicious!! I've been lucky the past few years that the schools have provided the kiddies with lunch. They're typically nutritious lunches too. Fingers crossed we continue to get lucky.
