Now that my children are full grown adults, I don't think about making all of the kid friendly snacks and treats throughout the holiday season. It's kind of nice not having to break out all of the cookie decorating and gingerbread house kits, though I'm sure I'll miss it some day, and instead I can focus on making more grownup, sophisticated kinds of eats. I have an adults only potluck to go to this Saturday and I thought about making chocolate chip cookies, but then my husband had to go and open his big mouth and tell an actual baker that's going to be there that he can't ever buy any of her chocolate chip cookies because nobody makes chocolate chip cookies better than his wife. I'm sure he didn't mean to insult her while trying to pay me a compliment, but now I feel like if I show up with subpar cookies, we're both going to look like idiots. So while trying to save face, I found this White Chocolate and Pear Tart recipe on Golden Blossom Honey that I could take instead.
This tart does have a few extra steps than most other tarts because of the refrigeration/setting time, but if you plan ahead, it's definitely worth the effort. The sesame seed crust was a new one for me. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but it turned out that I really enjoyed the subtle texture it offered. The filling is dense, yet light. Sweet, but not overly so. All around, I'd say this is one elegant and classy dessert fit for any holiday gathering this season. And really, who needs cookies anyway?
Ingredients
Crust:1 1/3 cups ground gingersnaps
1 Tablespoon ground ginger
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup margarine, melted
Filling:
1 Tablespoon water
1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
2/3 cup heavy cream, divided in half
6 ounces white chocolate, preferably imported
1/4 cup sour cream
Pears:
1 1/2 cups white wine
1/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
3 whole cloves
4 pears, peeled, cored and quartered

Will you be attending any adults only parties this holiday season?
Rica tarta . Gracias por la receta. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so lovely, pear and white chocolate is one of my all time fave combos! Bet it will be a hit at the parteeey! Pear juice is one of my faves and everything pear flavoured is always on my radar just like everything banana oriented LOL My fave ever washing liquid was with pear fragrance. Earlier this year I found a pear hand wash from Turkey, but did not like it, sadly, as there was something else added into it. We had fig pear tea here, but I did not like it as the fig was too strong, wish there was just a pear tea.
ReplyDeleteJuż sam wygląd sprawia, że chce się ja przygotować
ReplyDeleteOnly if we’re invited! Lol, I have no idea if anyone is having anything. We seem to host everything and I’m getting burned out.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE white chocolate and this Pear Tart looks so decadent! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteProbably not, hard to find the time to attend family parties this year
ReplyDeletehahaha you didn't want to prove him right? Geez. Bah, when you miss it by that time you may have grandkids to make the cookies with. Sure looks way more elegant than cookies though indeed.
ReplyDeleteDear Theresa looks beautiful !! Merry Christmas !!!
ReplyDeletePears are so lovely in a winter dessert. Sorry about the chocolate chip debacle, but I think you did the right thing.
ReplyDeleteI love pears but I haven't made a dessert with them yet. I don't do parties.
ReplyDeleteThis is a super classy looking tart. And I'm guessing the baker was just tickled that your husband is so supportive of your baking. :)

"Now that my children are full grown adults..." That stopped me in my tracks, Theresa. I remember them being kids. How that happen, right?
ReplyDeleteWhite chocolate is my favorite.
Hope you're doing fine.
Blue
Beautiful combination and looks fingerlickingly delicious.
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious! It's cute that your hubby tried to compliment you. Did you guys laugh about it later? We didn't attend ONE adult party this season, but that's ok. I'm enjoying the time with my babies while I still can.
