Don't you love little charming touristy towns? I know that I do! One of my favorites is Frankenmuth in Michigan. It's one that we took the girls to many years ago, which I'm pretty sure I blogged about our first visit way back then, and one that I am lucky enough that my work travels takes me to at least twice a year. We were just there over the weekend and as per usual, Allison and I had to make our traditional stop into the Cheese Haus. I can hardly ever walk out of there without spending all of my money on different types of cheeses that I can't find back home. Blueberry cobbler, smoked bacon, red pepper, basil and parmesean were some of the novelty flavors that we purchased this round. But in addition to new flavors, we did grab some classics like mozzarella and Swiss. And in true fashion, I couldn't wait to get home and try some new recipes with my new cheeses. I love me some caramelized onions, so it was a no brainer to pull out the grater and take it to the Swiss so I could put it to good use in this Onion and Cheese Tart, a Golden Blossom Honey recipe.
This is one of those recipes that I simply cannot get enough of. Caramelized onions mixed into a cheesy batter. Oh, yeah... that's the good stuff right there! There was enough batter that I could have filled 2 store bought pie crusts, so I am thinking next time I will divide it between the two crusts that come in the package or just purchase the ready made deep dish pie crust from the grocer's freezer. Mother's Day is less than 2 weeks away, so if you haven't planned lunch for the special mom/s in your life yet, this right here is my recommendation!
Ingredients
1 9-inch pie crust
1 Tablespoon olive oil
2 Tablespoons butter or margarine

2 eggs
1 cup half & half
2 Tablespoons flour
2 teaspoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 ounces Swiss cheese, grated
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

What is your favorite little tourist town?
That is a classic combo that everyone likes, methinks, although too much cheese can stop you from pooping for days LOL at least I've heard so, I've never eaten mucho cheese as it has always been expensive here and now I don't even eat it anymore. Although I do plan to make some glufree pizza some day so I will probably need me some vegetarian cheese. I don't have the patience to make veggies cheese from chickpeas myself, although I did see recipes on YouTube, even for soft ones and for cream and yogurt.
ReplyDeleteI’d love to hear how it goes if you ever do make it. I am just too lazy to try. Though o love making a knock off chick fil a chicken sandwich from chickpeas but it takes soooo long so we don’t have that often.
DeleteI think I’ve only been to Frankenmuth twice. When we took the kids, we all bought Xmas ornaments, so it’s fun to see those every year. My fave is hard to choose. We’ve been to Williamsburg twice and loved it. I’ve always wanted to go back at Xmas to see all the natural decorations.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Williamsburg but I am really wanting to go at some point. Christmas would be beautiful there, I imagine.
DeleteI've been to the Cheese Haus in Frankenmuth many times. I love that little city. My teen went with his dad over the holiday and he didn't want to go into the Christmas store. I was flabbergasted. ;) The onion cheese tart sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteI’m kind of with little man there. That store can be overwhelming for kids since it’s sooo huge. Allison and I power walk it when we go since it’s usually only open an hour before we have to work ourselves.
DeleteThis shocking news has me reaching for my coffee to calm down. Oh wait, coffee isn't supposed to calm you down. I'm such a weirdo. ;) :)
DeleteSo delicious <3
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good. I don't do much traveling so I would have no idea.
ReplyDeleteBut you live in a state that has so much, I can see why you don’t leave much.
DeleteThat is a lot of cheese. Sounds straight forward to make. I guess i'd pick Lunenburg here. Big tourist trap.
ReplyDeleteI’ll have to look that one up. We want to come back to Canada soon and I may have to swing through there!
DeleteGracias por la receta. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh very delicious recipe
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh very amazing recipe
ReplyDeleteI've had an onion tart - and love them - but not one with cheese. It sounds like a natural. I've always heard great things about Frankenmuth. Glad you enjoyed your return to it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI don't know if it counts as a tourist town or not but I would say St Augustine Florida
ReplyDeleteI love St Augustine! If you haven’t went in January ever, you should try. The whole town is lit up and it is gorgeous!
DeleteI may be biased but Blueberry cobbler has a nice ring to it. Hello Theresa. How are you today?
ReplyDeleteIt does have a nice ring. Hi Blue! Hope you’re well!
