I've been seeing a lot of my social media friends post their apple orchard pics and admit that I'm a wee bit jealous that they've made the time to go and I haven't. I was gung-ho to get my Halloween decorations up in August to get a head start on setting them up. Alas, that didn't happen. Time is in very short supply these days and I hate it because autumn is my favorite season and it already feels like it's slipping right past me. It's probably why I seem to have an addiction to buying apples every time I walk into the grocers, whether I need them or not. I had 4 bags in my fridge this week. FOUR! It's starting to get ridiculous in my fridge so I ran over to my trusty Golden Blossom Honey to search for a quick recipe to help cut my stash down a little bit. There I found this Warm Cider Apples recipe, and because I absolutely love a hot cup of apple cider this time of year, I couldn't wait to see how the apples would turn out.

If you're looking for a fun autumn recipe that doesn't require much work, this is the one! 7 ingredients is all you need to set the tone for the season. I doubled the recipe and had these on the table from start to finish in 15 minutes. I think many will want to use them as a topping for autumn inspired eats. They definitely take pound cake, ice cream, and pancakes up a notch, and they make a great side dish for your chicken and pork dinners, too. But for me, I actually like them as is, right out of the pan. I just grab a fork and go to town.  I don't think there's any wrong way to indulge in warm cider apples this season. Dessert, side dish, or as is, this is one fantastic apple recipe!

Ingredients

5 large apples, (preferably Granny Smith or Rome), cored and cut into thick slices

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

3 teaspoons butter

1/4 cup GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY

1/2 cup apple cider

What is your favorite apple variety?

  1. I was thinking I would eat them right out of the pan too, but then you mentioned pound cake which left me swooning. Those would be the perfect topping for pound cake!! Looking forward to taking the baby grands to the pumpkin patches/farms. They love it there and I do too. :)

  2. At the grocery store, I like Fuji apples. For local picking, I like red delicious and golden delicious.

    1. I have never picked red delicious, but maybe I should try. My family hates when I buy them though. They say they have no taste and are the worst of the apple bunches. Fuji and Gala are their picks. Granny Smith though for baking.

    2. Yeah, I don’t know why red delicious are so flavorless at the grocery store? The local ones are sweet and crisp.

  3. Gorgeous photo! We are only entering October on Sunday, so you have time to decorate for Halloween LOL I do not connect apples to Autumn as I eat them daily all year long, I need my apple in the afternoons after my camomile, nettle or green tea with honey. We have our varieties, but most popular is red and gold delicious. This year we have a lot of gala apples, which I am mostly buying as they are the cheapest and beggars cannot be choosers LOL I don't care which variety it is as long as they are extremely sweet and juicy. What I despise fruitwise about Autumn is that regular lemons are just now being replaced by fecking meyer lemons which I hate with passion, here they stink like rot and mould.

    1. Allison was pissed that we just now got around to putting up Halloween decorations this week. She's like "we only have 2 weeks to enjoy them now!" It they aren't up a full month, she thinks it's a waste of time since we have so many. Your red delicious must be better than what we get here. The consensus seems to be many in the US think it's the worst, flavorless variety that we have. Fuji and Gala seem to be the most popular for eating as is and Granny Smith we use a lot for baking.

    2. I imagine all of your fruit and veggies in USA have no taste. Ours still does, but oranges, bananas and now even tangerines are becoming tasteless and nasty or sour in recent years. Apples are however domestic, so they are rich in flavour. That cannot be said, sadly, for tomatoes which taste like bland shit unless you grow them yourself like we used to do at our farm. Ours were big as pumpkins and melons and sweet and flavourful, I miss them.

    3. Surprisingly, for as much as we have imported, most of our produce is very flavorful. Tomatoes can be hit or miss also, that's why I prefer them straight from my garden. Dragonfruits though, idk if they are supposed to have flavor because they taste like chewing on water to me. Same with starfruit. I guess most tropical fruits, aside from pineapple, are pretty flavorless here.

  4. 15 mins to done is good indeed. I never knew you were secretly an apple hoarder though lol I just ate then as is when I did eat them.

  7. I like golden delicious apples. It's the yellow apples. They aren't sour like green ones and don't have the red taste to them.
