It doesn't look like we're going to be getting a white Christmas here in Indiana this year. The temps will be clocked around 55 degrees in my area, which is probably one of the warmest Christmases I'll have experienced. Truth be told, I'm ok with that. I hate driving in the snow, even if it's only going 20 minutes across town to my in-laws, who will be hosting our family for the holiday once again. We usually provide the meat dish as our contribution to the family dinner, but I'll also be taking a dessert. I decided against cookies this year, simply because I'm burnt out from our first full year of being full-time small business owners and the thought of adding extra work to my plate when I'm ready for a break doesn't excite me. I've mentioned it a lot lately, but simplicity is what's going to keep me going through the New Year. So, I decided on an easy Plum Crisp recipe from Golden Blossom Honey for our Christmas dessert this year.
While I realize that plums aren't necessarily a winter fruit, they seem to be in abundance in our stores this time of the year, so I figured, why not? What appealed to me most about this recipe is it is awesome served with a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream, and with the warm weather temps we'll be experiencing next week, it all just makes sense. I'm not a fan of anisette toasts on their own, and admit that using them for the crumble did give me pause. But, the spice of the toasts are toned way down when mixed with melted butter and offset with the sweetness of the honey and fruit, making this an unforgettable combination of flavors. This is probably one of my favorite recipes now that offered me a pleasant surprise once I was able to try the final creation. There are minimal ingredients here, and I did go back and forth on wanting to experiment with a few spices, like cinnamon or a pinch of nutmeg, but glad that I didn't because the recipe had the right combination of flavors without anything else added in. If you're still looking for a last minute holiday dessert, this is it! Easy and delicious make the perfect combination this Christmas!
Ingredients
1 pound plums, pitted and cut into slices
3 Tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
2 Tablespoons dark rum
6 anisette toasts, crushed (can be found in cookie section of supermarket)
3 Tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 pint vanilla frozen yogurt

It is so unusual for me that you still have plums over there LOL We have only apples and suprisingly still some grapes.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy birthday and holiday weekend ahead, hope it will be fun at the in laws although you will be missing a member this year.
Plums do remind me of Christmas, I think because of the book... "while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads." I don't even know if sugar plums are real, or if they're even fruit if they are, lol. I love a fruit crisp. Merry Christmas, Theresa! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday and you get some super chill down time. Here's to an extra prosperous 2024 with your new business!
ReplyDeleteYes, the sugar plums is what makes me think they are related to the holiday too. Now I have to research if they are even a real thing or just made up for a children's story LOL. Happy New Year, Rosey! Here's hoping you have a wonderful year ahead and things fall into place for you the way they are meant to!
DeleteJust goes to show that less can be more. Hopefully you all have a great Christmas and here's to more small business fun and 4 more cats in 2024 lol
ReplyDeleteUm, no more cats in 2024 or in the years following LOL. A dog maybe, but I'm maxed out on cats now!
DeleteThat looks so good.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a Merry Christmas.
