I always look forward to the return of August because I know we're not far off from autumn fruits, which are my favorite fruits. Apples, pears, and pumpkins top off the list, but I really do love them all! I do some of my best baking in the fall because there's just something really cozy and magical when the air is crisp, warmth returns to the color of the leaves, and the house is filled with the scent of goodies baking in the oven. I thought about making an apple quick bread this week, but after seeing all of the back to school photos on Facebook, it took me back to my own school days thinking about how I always looked forward to when they served fruit crisp for lunch dessert because those were my favorite lunch days. So, I changed plans and opted to make an autumn inspired fruit crisp instead. I found this
Pear-Cherry Crisp with Lemon Cream on Golden Blossom Honey's website and thought it was the perfect recipe as we start to transition from summer fruits to autumn fruits. It's got the best of both worlds all all mixed into one delightful dish.
I normally like to bake with Bosc pears, but that variety hasn't hit our markets yet, so if you're the same and can't find them at the store, Anjou and Bartlett work just as well here. But I'm going to be honest and admit that I actually took the lazy way out this week and bought sliced pears in a can to use in this recipe because, well, I just wanted to be lazy LOL. In my opinion, it didn't affect the outcome of the dessert, since the ripe pears would have softened in the oven anyway. But fresh or canned, either way is perfectly fine so preceded at your discretion. This dessert has a perfect blend of sweet with a hint of warmth. The lemon, cherries and honey marry the summer flavors to the pear and cinnamon of autumn quite well, and the sweet cream pulls it all together just deliciously! This crisp has moved to one of the top 5 slots of my all time favorite fall desserts and I know I'll be making it many more times before the year's end!

What was your favorite food on the school lunch menu?
That is a very nice combo cherries and pears. I love the fragrance of pears in anything, wish we had it in hand soaps, shower gels, body mists, hand creams but we sadly don't. I saw on some site a car refreshner tree with pear fragrance (I always have one of them trees hanging in my room under the AC) but they told me it is out of stock, sadly. I ordered violet, raspberry, apple and pear ones, but do not know if they will send them as I did not get teh return email. I did order a big 65cl glass for juice and ice tea as I broke one of my old ones a few days ago LOL I thought it would be easy to find a big one, maybe a bear one with the leg underneath, but it was a dificult task. I found some at IKEA and then realised their postage is ten times the price of the glass LOL
ReplyDeleteI broke one of my favorite mugs recently too and can't for the life of me find a replacement. I like a huge glass mug with a handle that I can fit my whole hand through. It's either one or the other, but not both on the mugs I've been finding. So frustrating! And yes, Ikea's postage is insane. I always stop and shop there when we're in Chicago just to avoid their postage costs.
DeletePear is a scent that we cannot find frequently here, either. Like, why? It's such a clean and lovely scent, you would think it would be in everything. It's always the same boring strawberry, apple, and cherry. They need to get some new scents for us to enjoy!
I actually found an apricot handwash last week and bought it, haven't tried it yet, but the fact it is with apricot got me excited lol
DeleteYum! This looks delicious. Reading your words about autumn made me really look forward to it, my fav season as well. Can't wait to bake that first loaf of pumpkin bread filled with walnuts! I will have to try this, definitely trying out your Lemon Honey Cream topping this weekend as I'm making a no bake cheesecake and this would be the perfect topping for it. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love some no bake cheesecakes. I am sure yours turned out divine! Yes, the cream would make for a delicious cheesecake topping. Such a great idea!
DeleteCrisp is always a good idea :D
ReplyDeleteI agree! With seasonal fruits, it's one to enjoy year round!

That sounds really good. School lunch would be the burritos or pizza.
ReplyDeleteEveryone loved that pizza! We never got burritos here, sadly!
DeleteRico pastel. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThe fruit and the spices do remind me of fall. Sounds delicious by itself or with the lemon cream.
ReplyDeleteIt is a perfect fall dessert, indeed!
DeleteThat's an interesting combination of flavors, with the cherry, pear, and lemon. Nice to know that canned pears worked, although I imagine it must've shortened the baking time.
ReplyDeleteI did shorten the baking time by just 5 minutes and it turned out perfectly. I should have put that up there in the notes.
DeleteNothing wrong with being lazy every now and then. Back to school, ugg, means summer is over. Top 5 ever is sure a win. I never bothered with school lunch lol
ReplyDeleteYou and I will never see eye to eye on summer vs fall LOL!
DeleteThis sounds delicious. I bet it would be a perfect weekend breakfast. I like a sweet breakfast every now and again.
ReplyDeleteSame. It's nice to have something sweet over savory for a change. Not always, but every once in a while it is most welcome!
DeleteHello, I don't even want to think that it's almost autumn, I get depressed just thinking about it! But with this delicious recipe, I might just cheer up, it looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteAutumn isn't for everyone, and that's ok! I hope summer hangs around a little extra longer for you this year!
DeleteWow! Looks amazing. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat sounds great and looks delicious. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeletePizza 🍕 😋
ReplyDeleteSeems to be the clear favorite!
DeleteI love recipes like this! :d
ReplyDeleteMy favorite school lunch was the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I bought some peaches at a local farm a few days ago and made a peach cobbler and a peach blueberry pie. SO YUM!
ReplyDeleteOoh, we never got grilled cheese at our school. But my mom would always put tomato soup in a thermos for me and I loved those lunches. Now I need a blueberry peach pie. That sounds amazing!
